The 2024 QB Tiers results are here, complete with commentary from the 50 NFL coaches and executives who were granted anonymity to share candid evaluations. The panel consisted of seven general managers, eight head coaches, 12 coordinators, 12 executives, eight assistant coaches and three involved in coaching/analytics.

quote:

20. Carr’s No. 20 ranking ties for his worst in 10 Tiers appearances. His 3.00 average is his worst since 2015, when Carr was entering his second season and on the upswing.

“He’s a 3 without (Jon) Gruden,” an offensive coach said. “Gruden could carry the mantel of all the leadership, where Carr could just snuggle up under the umbrella of Gruden. He is exposed now. He is the umbrella. It’s not comfortable. That takes away from his production.”

Carr’s statistics from last season aligned with Mayfield’s. Both led teams that finished 9-8. But voters see Carr as a declining player lacking the intangibles they think are strengths for Mayfield.

“We talk like Baker is some revitalization story,” a head coach said. “No, Baker has taken two teams to division titles. Derek Carr was in that same NFC South division with a better defense.”

The Saints ranked ninth and the Buccaneers were 18th last season in EPA per play on defense, per TruMedia.

“What holds (Carr) back is a lack of toughness in the pocket, and some of his decision making within the scheme,” another exec said

It will go down as a decision that set the team back for a long time.

This is perfectly said. No one is falling for his mindless rah rah drivel

When has letting a bottom 5 coach pick a mediocre QB and pay him big money ever worked?

Loomis not only did this but doubled down on stupid.

I got mocked incessantly for begging this fricking team to keep Jameis one more year instead of paying for Carr.

We could've rebuilt sooner. Less cap hell, instead we sign Mr. fricking Mascara

Unless Rattler pans out and we get a new coach next year.

Wishful thinking on my part, but hey, it could happen.

Rattler is looking like a legit steal

He has a chance to start games in the nfl imo.

Baker is on team #4. None of the people who voted on this survey wanted him. He ended up in Tampa because he was the best available player on the discount rack when Tom retired.

Carr is on team #2. When the Raiders soured on him, teams pursued him. Teams with a plural s. Wasn't just us.

When it comes to these front office types (who speak without putting their name on it), sometimes you follow what they do and ignore what they say.

This is not to say Carr is better because I think these 2 are very similar players, but for these GM types to all of a sudden see Baker as miles ahead of Carr is disingenuous.

Right. Any of these teams could've taken a chance on baker for next to nothing.

He was on the panthers then the Rams to end the year.

Fact Check: OUR QB1 DC4 has thick natural eyelashes, much like current GOP VP nominee JD Vance.

Both men have consistently denied using makeup or fillers on their eyes.

Carr's contract will still be here for years to come

Am I missing something? I thought this was one of his strengths, and also what hurt the team. He has stayed in the pocket and taken it on the chin and played through injuries (to the detriment of the team), what am I missing here?

“He’s a 3 without (Jon) Gruden,” an offensive coach said. “Gruden could carry the mantel of all the leadership, where Carr could just snuggle up under the umbrella of Gruden. He is exposed now. He is the umbrella. It’s not comfortable. That takes away from his production.”

This phrasing is a huge slap in the face We all saw it last year, he is definitely not that "rah, rah" type of leader like Gruden was. I wonder if Kubiak can take some of the leadership parts off of Carr, and let Carr "snuggle up under the umbrella of Kubiak"

Edit: OP can you add the link, curious to read/see the other rankings.

I think Carr is somewhat better than number 20, and it looks like even these rankings have generally had him higher. He is a top half or so QB who can, at his best, be top third. I get the idea that we should not have invested in him, but he is not the reason the Saints missed the playoffs. If he doesn't get hurt against Green Bay, the Saints make the playoffs.

Exactly.

I've always said that once he gets rattled it's pretty much over with for the day.

You do realize that putting him as a top third QB is saying he's a top 10 QB in the league?

I was unaware that Derek Carr was the head coach and offensive coordinator of the Saints. How was this never reported? Underhill? Duncan? You guys dropped the ball on a major story!

Or if Foster Moreau makes an easy catch vs Jacksonville blowing that game or if Taysom doesn't fumble inside the 10 at Atlanta costing us that game
