The New York Giants on Thursday released Brandon Marshall after just one season, with general manager Dave Gettleman saying the veteran wide receiver failed a physical.

The five-time Pro Bowl receiver, who was signed by the Giants last offseason to a two-year, $11 million deal, never seemed to get comfortable and was struggling before suffering an ankle injury in Week 5 that required season-ending surgery.

Gettleman was asked if the move meant the Giants were interested in signing receiver Dez Bryant, who was released by the Dallas Cowboys earlier this week and has expressed interest in signing with an NFC East opponent of his former team.

Said Gettleman: "We are interested in everybody."

Marshall finished with 18 catches for 154 yards and didn't score a touchdown in five games for the Giants, who also lost star receiver Odell Beckham Jr. for the season in Week 5.

Seems to always be the center of attention. Don’t need that here. I feel good about our WR going into next year.

NFL Star Brandon Marshall Has Borderline Personality Disorder

:The reason, Marshall revealed, is that he has been suffering for years from borderline personality disorder, a serious mental illness.

"Borderline personality disorder is marked by pervasive instability of interpersonal relationships, self-image and emotions," said Dr. Harold Bursztajn, co-director of the Harvard Medical School Program in Psychiatry and the Law. "It's marked by issues with impulsivity." Bursztajn did not treat Marshall, but spoke about the condition based on his clinical observations of other patients.

Those with BPD often experience intense bouts of anger, depression and anxiety that can be associated with aggression, alcohol or drug abuse and self-injury, according to the National Institute of Mental Health."

This means Dez is going to the Big Apple. He wants to stay in division to play Cowboys twice a year. That receiving corps is going to be good.
