Examples of players who returned to greatness after multiple missed seasons - MT related

Is there another WR or any position for that matter where a guy misses multiple seasons and then comes back close to as good as they were previously?
I'm sure there are but I'm drawing a blank.
There have been guys that sat out due to contract disputes and retirement, but I can't think of a guy that was injured essentially most of three seasons and came back good.

Not many. People need to temper expectations. He could be a very good player for us but I know some people who think health automatically makes him a top 5-10 wr which isn’t likely.

The good news is we don’t need him to be 2019 MT. Anything we get from him is helpful Imo

The thing that makes MT such a special wr is his HANDS. Dude has stickier hands than a toddler eating ice cream.
He didn’t hurt his hands. I think he will still be elite if his legs/feet are good.

I think the Saints are expecting/hoping for more than just "anything". But they certainly are not expecting 2019 level production. Or anything all that close to it.
In 2019 (where Thomas caught almost 150 passes), the second leading non-RB pass catcher was Cook with 43 receptions. Ted Ginn was behind him with 30. On this team, while they may not say it publicly, I think the Saints see Olave as their #1 option. You also have a guy in Shaheed who they like and the always controversial Tre'Quan Smith. Thus, they probably don't need Thomas to be the 2019 version. Just a guy who stays healthy and catches 60-70 passes and 4-6 TDs. If healthy, he's probably still capable of that

He's going to be pretty close to it. Mike is a workout freak. If he's healthy you'll get about 5-7 catches a game with the occasional 10-12 catch game. He's dominating camp and looks like Mike.
I think the only thing holding Mike back from his usual numbers besides health is him working with Olave, who may be the best wr Mike has ever played with.

Don’t have an answer to your question but let’s not forget MT13 was a freak last year week 1 in that comeback against ATL. Had a really good week 2 as well before he got reinjured. We saw elite MT13 the last time he played. IF he’s actually healthy, I expect WR1 MT13 back, with Olave by his side, could be one of the best duos in the league easily

My guess is if their is any receiver that would least be affected by a long layoff it would be Thomas because his game isn't predicated by speed but by running crisp accurate routes, by positioning and out muscling the defender and like a previous poster mentioned his hand strength. If the ball gets to his spot he's coming down with it regardless, nobody's going to out position or muscle the ball away from him. Also he is highly competitive and I have no doubts that he will be satisfied with anything less than getting back to as close to 100% of his former self.
I think he and the team expect something near to the old MT. Even if we got 80% of the old MT your looking at about 94 recs. a season. I'll take it.

He also runs great routes. He gets teased for being slant boy, but if he can still get that burst to cut in on slants he will be back to being a weapon. We have Olave in the mid to deep game, and Shaheed in the deep game, just need MT13 to crush everything 15 yards and in.

I think it would be hard to find one, usually when you hear about players missing multiple years they are either fringe guys or at the end of their careers. MT is an example of someone getting injured in his prime and still in his prime years.

His hands and his strength.
He can still eat underneath. Looking at him in the first few training camp practices, he seems to be running routes at the same speed and pace. Looks fine to me.
I think he will be back.

Not ideal with multiple foot injuries. Would almost be better if he was a straight up field stretcher.

Accurate, crisp route running is more about timing than speed. You hit your marks at the right time. This is a hugely beneficial for timing between the Q.B. and receiver.
It helps a Q.B. anticipate where you will be, when. If you are refering to issues of not being able to make sharp cuts he won't last long despite the type of route. I see what you're saying though.

I had him in fantasy last year, think it was like 3 touchdowns in less than two games. That’s a typical Julio jones season right there.

I wouldn't exactly call that a "return" to greatness. He wasn't exactly great initially or he would have never left.
