Elias Sports Bureau of Officiating

I propose that a Congressional Oversight Committee establishes an independent organization to oversee the hiring and administration of NFL referees.
For example purposes only, let's call the new organization: The Elias Sports Bureau of Officiating.
The group as a mandate would stat all calls and non calls by refs.
A standard grade of acceptability would be established.
When an official does not pass a yearly grade, they are terminated.
All statistics and grades will be open to public scrutinization.
The NFL will be removed from the hiring and termination of said new officials.
The NFL will pay all salaries.
Existing refs will not be eligible for any future hires as game officials.
All current officials will be given a retirement package.
The NFL still retains the rights to creating and changing the rules for each game and the penalties that can be called.
There will be no NFL home office involvement in calls made during games.
Replay and coach challenges can be eliminated.
Refs can ask to view video to establish position of the line of scrimmage, correct clock manage, or to determine if a player has scored.
Mistakes will be made, but accountability has been established.
The NFL can still suspend and fine players after the games have concluded.

No one is more invested in maintaining integrity of the product they sell than the owner of the business. If they don't care the product is not worth worrying about. So, why are you worrying about it? If you suspect that to be the case, stop watching because that's the only way it affects them.
At the root level this is just a game and no one is out there curing cancer.

Newsflash:
Officials cheat!!!
If you pay attention to point spreads and totals it becomes even more obvious. The fact that the NFL almost never disciplines them makes it so easy for this to happen. There are legitimate missed and blown calls also, but cheating is happening. I don’t think players cheat, but the officials don’t make huge salaries and have the ability to change games on “judgement” calls whenever necessary. This is not only happening in football....it’s with anything that you can place a bet on.

the nfl directly influences the games with bad officiating. last night, the officials didnt even miss the penalty on the fg block the flag was thrown. it was picked up with a "j/k no flag"
the nfl does this shite every game every week directly in our faces like we are stupid. the nfl needs to be investigated for point shaving imho. they are cheating the game, players, and fans. it shouldnt be allowed to continue. no accountability, but it is one of the many reasons people are getting tired of their shite.
i am on board with this. have an upvote

I've never seen so much crying over an 11-2 team
The Who Dat's require perfection
We've been suffering for 20+years

I understand but it’s been pointed out several times Cowboy’s fans have started most of the threads since the game. You gotta expect a Louisiana based message board to have some bitching after a Saints loss. It was much worse after the Bucs game when we thought we were gonna have a great D and they shite the bed. Fortunately the D has turned around but our O has been lame for 3 games now, except for 4th Q Sunday. If we’d have won I’d be trolling also, so hat off to you

Why not? Existing Refs are the best.
I know that’s hard to believe but do you remember the cluster frick that the league was when the refs went on strike?
I remember being amazed at how bad the replacement refs were and having a new appreciation for NFL refs by the time that was done.
I’m not saying that an oversight board isn’t a good idea but blackballing all current refs is stupid.

I think being a NFL referee is a ridiculously tough job and now we can watch their frick ups on huge HD television. Also we have message boards and 24 hour news pounding into our heads how much the refs fricked up. I’d hate to be a college or NFL referee, no freaking way.

The only problem I really, truly have with the on-field officials, is that some of them probably need to retire due to old age. I don't think it's reasonable to expect 50 and 60 year old guys - no matter how much they work out - to be able to officiate a game of 20 and 30 year olds. The game is too fast and too complex.
The officials are human, mistakes will be made.
The problem I have is, the system to fix those mistakes is horribly broken.
Setting up the command center in NY was supposed to help this process, but it seems like it has just added more inconsistency to it.
We don't need congressional committees...we just need common sense changes.
1) All scoring plays, change of possession plays, and plays where the line to gain has been ruled on the field as having been achieved, as well as all plays in the last 2 minutes of each half and all plays in OT, are subject to booth review. Coaches cannot challenge these plays.
2) Coaches are given one challenge per half. Anything can be challenged, but only one aspect of a play can be challenged, and that aspect is communicated to the official. That is what is looked at. If the coach wins the challenge, he keeps it. If he loses the challenge, he loses it for the half, as well as a timeout. He must have a timeout available to challenge.
3) The evidence must be clear to overturn. If it's a "judgement call" then the call on the field stands.
The replay system is meant to fix obvious errors on major plays. It has become a system where stupid ticky tack stuff is reversed on shaky evidence, while large errors are deemed "not reviewable"
