The fact that he would have taken up immediately with another team offering this much money seems like it frames a good argument to his perceived value. This should only help us to leverage for max compensation on top of going to the worst front office that is not in our conference. I would squeeze that orange for every bit of juice.

He can do whatever the hell he wants to do. Last year was a grind no coach ever had to deal with. He had to know this year would be better, how could it not be? Still he decided to walk away even though that was likely. So to call him a coward for making a life decision for himself isn't intelligent.

He has a choice to be a coward. Sure. I have a choice to convey a distain for a decision he makes. He quit on this organization, the city, the fans, the team, the staff. He broke up with us.

If they were willing to give him a 100 mil and trade for brady they would've given the saints whatever they wanted.

Without seeing the specifics of the contract, all we can do is speculate. With that said, there is a legitimate dialogue that there could be language within the contract that allows a coach/player to step away from the game and the team "owns their rights" for X years. It would be similar to the Barry Sanders, Andrew Luck discussions. The only way out would be for the team to receive value to send the rights somewhere lese, or for the coach/player to buy their way out of the contract.

There could also be specific language that says the contract terminates on some date in March 2024.

One can still think that

16 years in one city is a lot. I love Nola as much as the next person, but if I’m getting offered $100m to live in South Beach we’re all leaving.

How long does Payton have to sit out before he can coach again and we don’t have his rights? Is there a timeline?

SP’s current contract runs through the 2024 season so the Saints are in a good spot for a while.

At this point it’s almost like some of these Twitter sports people are just making things up…

Seems the most important part is kinda missing.

What were they willing to give the Saints?

Otherwise its all a big f@cking waste of time

You really think a couple of draft picks would have stopped the Dolphins owner

After offering 100 million

I’ve been telling you fricks about this since his phoney bullshite lying retirement.

And all I ever got back was scumbag insults.

That’s ok

I can handle it because I know I wasn’t made a fool of like many on this board.

I’ll repeat

frick that lying POS scumbag

“I don’t see myself coaching next season”

You guys are a joke.

This story broke soon after his marathon “retirement” press conference

Y’all didn’t believe it then and apparently still don’t

Go ahead and continue to get made a fool of

You have to be a god damn retard to think Payton turned down 5/100 Million. And you are saying other people are fools. No coach in this league is turning that contract down.

Oh wait it’s that idiot Rohan Gravy. Makes sense

Who cares?

Being honest everyone thought Payton was some quaterback guru because of Romo and Brees.

What did Romo win?

Yes Brees broke tons of records and won 1 superbowl.

Can you credit Payton with Brees being as great as he was? Yes

Can you fault Payton because Brees only won 1 superbowl? Yes

Was Paytons ego bigger than his britches? Yes

Bottom line, both Payton and Brees brought us many winning seasons, alot of exciting times and a superbowl.

If you think Payton retiring was because you thought he couldn't be without a HOF quaterback, well nobody was predicting that for Brees in 2004 or 2005.

If you think it was because he wanted to enjoy life, good for him.

If you are grinding on "well we should get compensation if he goes somewhere else, if the average person leaves a company for a job they dreamed of, does their employer get compensation? No

At the end of the day be happy we got a superbowl and if a fan of the team, throw your raging emotions behind the new staff.

At the end of the day, it's not affecting my sleep
