Did Paytons quiting suprise you?

No.

I've been one of the more vocal ones about the possibilities that we could be encountering ahead.

I knew eventually this would happen, as 16 years in one place is several lifetimes for a coach. I didn't expect it this year, but I wasn't truly surprised.

yes, but to be honest i thought something fishy was going on when he quit from the competition committee, i felt at the time why would he do that unless he completely gave up and just had a frick it attitude. at the time i just thought it meant he was going to finish out his contract and get the team back to a competitive level and then just retire.

in hindsight it was the first indicator that he had already checked out and was done with the NFL

i've made many of snark remarks about payton being traded here or there, one emotional fire his arse during the season but here's one of my my thought out responses on 12/2/2021.

Its not so much Gayle/Loomis wanting to trade payton, but if payton did have a desire to coach elsewhere and try to leave his imprint and align with another organization before he gets too old to do so, now would be as good of time as any. I think Loomis and Gayle would have enough respect for each other that they would likely accommodate in some ways something for payton. Not sure they would hold him hostage.

I'm not saying I want to trade payton (he does make me mad at times with different issues) and hell, if we do get enough compensation back, maybe i would trade payton. Now may be a good time to reset organization with either Dennis Allen or an up and coming Offensive Coordinator again.

I'm more open and aware of slightly plausible possibilities.

I thought he would finish his current contract, but I did not expect him to sign any more extensions.

I really thought he would want to prove that he could still be an elite coach without Drew which would take a few years.

But maybe one year was enough. To have all the trouble the team had this year, still be 9-8, and be a major Rams collapse away from making the playoffs... this was one of his best coaching jobs ever.

He has a new wife at home and this entire season has been one giant screw job from the league. He probably thinks the team is in good hands.

He’s been with her for over 10 years.

Surprised and shocked. Still processing the reality of it.

I wish that Jameis Winston could have had one more year with CSP.

Yeah. Mainly because he had a few years left on his contract. He’s still very young in coaching age. He had everything you could want at a coaching job. Sure we had a rough year but it wasn’t as bad as it could have been. All the injuries were the only reason this team wasn’t a contender. I just figured with all that he would definitely want to run it back.

Could be that those of us who are surprised weren't following his personal life.

This June, 2022, will mark his First Anniversary with his new wife. He and Skylene are still Newlyweds.

Skylene dated Kenney Chesney before she arranged to meet CSP through one of her friends. Skylene has no children.

Skylene is a beauty queen. She is a Newlywed Bride. She has no children. Perhaps she has been waiting for the right husband with whom to start a family. Perhaps this time is now.

How can a Newlywed Groom properly start a second family if he's got a demanding job like NFL head coach? So what if he says he can? What does his new Bride say? She wants him all to herself and the new family that she's planning.

This line of thinking makes sense AND there's every reason to support the Newlyweds. Neither of them grew up as Saints fans and both of them now seek a life away from the demands of the Saints and their fans.

It makes sense, when one thinks about it.

This Story began to unfold almost 11 years ago when the rumors of CSP's marital woes with Beth first began to surface.

CSP stuck around for a long time and built a solid foundation for his successor.
