ST caller: calls in bitching about loomis
deuce response:
quote:

it's the head coach going to the GM saying hey I think this is what we need to be successful... I can't tell you what other orgs do, but that's what I know the Saints do

for all of the people on here who only blame Mickey

Mickey, and the entire front office for that matter, at best could be compared to a head coach that is entirely dependent on his coordinators. On the good side, they won't get in the way and will defer to whatever the coordinator wants to do on their side of the ball but the problem is that they don't know how to fix anything if that star coordinator isn't there anymore. They also apparently don't what they're looking for in a great coordinator and thus don't know which ones to hire when the job is available.

The Saints got incredibly fortunate to have Sean Payton and Drew Brees fall into their laps and have demonstrated before and after that era that they have no idea what to do when they don't have a dominant HC to instruct them. They don't know how to fix the problem. The Saints look alot like Ed Orgeron trying to hire coordinators after Ensminger and Aranda left. They don't know what they're looking for so they keep trying the Dennis Allen's and the Derek Carr's of the world to return to glory.

Hey Mick , I need a hurt WR. And while you’re at it we need a DE that that can’t stay on the field.

That whole operation on airline is reactive and way too unaccountable

That may have been true under Payton, but I don't think its guaranteed to be true anymore after that.

Deuce is correct
Loomis has many more responsibilities now
He’s not researching every player in the draft anymore

Pretend it’s not way more nuanced than thst

Who hired the coach?
GM letting a HC construct the roster?
HC who has coached 20 games?

Thats even worse if true

Whatever the process is to get you to 37-53 and zero playoffs over the past 6 should get you canned. I don’t care if Jesus Christ is making the calls, it stinks

I pray she moves him and names a interim GM to finish the season.

So then Mickey has just happened to hire two straight head coaches who suck at identifying personnel? How does that let him off the hook?

People want to blame Ireland for the drafts and the coaches for the on-field product, but Mickey is the guy who keeps trusting Ireland to handle personnel and hired both of those coaches. At some point, the guy choosing who to trust has to be accountable for those choices.

He’s continued to defer to Ireland despite mounting evidence that 2017 was the outlier, and his last two head coaching hires have given us more of the same. Mickey is the common denominator in the steady decline in talent and wins since Brees retired.

Nobody is saying he personally makes every bad decision. But if your defense is that he keeps taking bad advice from people he hired and continues to trust, you’re making the case against him.

I’m sure he can be useful elsewhere. He’s teetering on the line of tarnishing his legacy now. He’s made a ton of money; got the ring, is in the trust, will probably get his name in the rafters. He’s 70 yeaes old, I’m sure his family misses him after all these years. Finish the season and put a bow on it

Cool. Doesn't change anything for me. I'd prefer to have a GM who is actively involved in the roster and has a vision that they are aligned with the HC on but don't just blindly trust them. Work as a team, push back on each other, build a good roster and culture.

I mean this is true to a point.

You can see Staley hand picked a bunch of these guys for the defense.

And Moore wanted some of these guys on offense like Noah fant..

Ireland is in charge of the draft though. That hasn't been good in some time. The organization as a whole needs new blood and a philosophy change.

ST does not have very many high IQ fans or even medium IQ fans.

It has a shite ton of emotional, passionate low IQ fans.

I think he's been trying to lean on others. He's had other consultants in the building. No one is stepping to the forefront; it's like the Jordan Tyson pick. I refuse to believe that no one in that draft room had doubts due to his inability to stay healthy. The Saints went ahead and used a top ten pick on him anyway.

I'm definitely rooting for the kid, and you can see the talent but wtf is it worth he has trouble staying healthy? I think he will have chances to really do well but we cannot be a pass happy team who is constantly playing catchup because of slow starts.
