Chuck Muncie may have been the most talented Running back the Saints ever had(along with George Rogers), his problem was his Coke Addiction, if Muncie got around the corner he was gone.
Thunder and Lightning still the most talented backfield 50 Years later.

Imma go out on a limb and suggest that the ones dismissing Chuck Muncie never saw him play.

The 3 best RB's in team history are Rogers, Muncie, and Deuce. You can argue 4th till the cows come home, but they are all distant from those 3 players.

In fact, one of the reasons this team plateaued under Mora was he never got a great running back. Rueben may have been great, but he got hurt. Everyone else was good but flawed.

Absolutely not.

8 seasons
Scrimmage yards
Rush+rec TD
Kamara
2017–2024
11,541
85
Deuce
2001–2008
7,816
54

Kamara clears Deuce very easily. It's insane how many ppl here underrate Kamara.

Muncie might be the biggest waste of talent in NFL history. If he had stayed clean he would be in the Hall of Fame.

Hilliard and Kamara for sure.
I would put Deuce on there.
Muncie had tremendous athletic ability, a rare combination of speed and power, but he squandered it because of his off the field problems. Just like George Rogers.

Obviously he would leave himself off. I'd put him right back on. As a matter of fact, he's the first one on it. I want to put PT on it solely for the SB touchdown. Then Hilliard and probably Kamara.

I know we always hate to use recent biases when it comes to these type of lists, but the Saints were such a talent vacuum for so long (80s-90s) that even players we consider NOLA GOATs would be unknowns to 90% of casual NFL fans. That said, give me:

Duece
Reggie
Alvin
Pierre

I don't think we win the Super Bowl without PT.

Don't disagree that Pierre was a valuable piece to the super bowl team. But if you're talking best running backs it's Kamara, Deuce, Muncie, Rogers.

Hilliard was good and very solid, but not great. Same for Pierre. Mayes could have been great if not for the injury.

Now if you're taking favorite 4, it's Deuce, Galbreath, Hokie & Mayes.

Was wondering if someone was going to mention Rueben. While not a Top 4, he was an amazing RB for the Black and Gold. NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year and 2 Pro Bowls. Not to mention he was the starting RB for the first Saints game ever, that I attended in the Dome.

Chuck Muncie is so underrated. Fumbled a bit too much but he was sooooo goood.

Deuce, Pierre, Kamara and you can debate Hilliard, Muncie, Mayes, Bush.

We don't win a SB without Pierre.

Hell, there is an argument that Duece is the best RB in Saints history. Remove Muncie and put Duece in. Muncie was a physical freak, but his peak was so short due to injuries and flakiness.

Ingram was nothing special on the field. We all like him because he was tough and a great teammate... a true Saint. But Muncie, Rogers, Duece, Kamala, Bush and Thomas were all better.
Bush and Thomas were also very good in the passing game.
