Derek Carr over the last 5 games

1,358 Yards
102.6 Rating
8 TDs 2 Ints (4-1 ratio)
67.4 Completion %

Along with a 5-4 record on the season if you count the packers game where he was up 17 to rock and got hurt… if you don’t that’s a 5-3 record.

He’s improved noticeably since the injury and has created a better chemistry with the receivers.

It’s time to start being realistic in expectations and be happy. This dude is playing good football and saints are in the driver seat of the NFCS

Thanks for posting. That is a good stretch of football, and it's not like you did too much in the way of cherry picking. If Carr plays something like this, he's what, a top dozen or so QB in the league? Maybe a little better? I can't say I expected more than that.

Random thought: did the Saints err by following the trend of scarcely playing starters in preseason? With the decreased OTAs and fall camp practices, it would make sense if teams need the preseason more than they used to, yet the trend is to play less and avoid injury. At least for teams with a new QB, that may not be the way to go.

I think we are 5th best team in the NFC right now. Maybe just maybe we can get to the 4th spot
After the start we have had that would be fine with me.

In a new offense. I mean that’s pretty solid.

And he’s steadily improving - in general - which you hope to see.

He’s not good for the price the saints pay. He is no better than baker mayfield and he’s cheap.

Over 17 games (rank compared to last year amongst QBs that played 10+ games):
66.2 completion% (T-13th)
4600 yards (4th)
7.1 YPA (T-15th)
27 TDs (7th)
7 INTs (T-24th)
96 Passer Rating (9th)

He's average/slightly above average

You need to look around at what some other QBs are making. He's getting middle of the road money for new contracts and is starting to produce higher mid-tier football.

The packers injury and loss has really colored the perception of this team. If that injury doesn’t happen, saints are 6-3 with some real glimmers of dominance.

The Saints are 17-1 when Taysom runs for 7 or more carries.

You’d think they’d give him 16 carries and 2-3 passes a game w those stats

We play 2 teams the rest of the season that currently have a winning record. Should easily make the playoffs.

Dennis Allen has him on the right track, that’s for sure.

He needs 10 snaps under center every game if the offensive flow dictates it.

Utilizing Taysom in the red zone has really improved Carr’s game. It almost feels like it takes a level of pressure off him.

We need to really keep utilizing that when the offense needs a spark.

Agreed. Carr moving the ball between the 20s, with taysom taking over in the red zone seems like the right flow for the saints right now.

This is the derek carr I was expecting to see all season when we acquired him. I expected him to be a borderline pro bowler within this offense and he’s finally reaching that efficiency now.

With our schedule and being in the NFCS I also expected no less than 10 wins and a division championship. We should be ahead of pace if not for some blown games but still set to accomplish that with a win this weekend. Not bad for a DA coached team!

IF Carr can continue being a "good" QB and IF the defense decides to start playing the game in the 1st quarter instead of the 3rd quarter of the remaining games I can live with that and the Saints should easily win the division and host a playoff game. It's a crap shoot after that.

Thats two big "IF's" that I'm not certain can happen at this point.

Red zone was our biggest deficiency early this season, seems like they are figuring that out and if we can get that down we have a chance against anyone in the NFC. Carr is playing efficiently now instead of forcing the ball which I think he was doing early
