When was the last time Dalton broke 90 on passer rating before this season? Do you think Dalton will have a better season than carr in 2023?
I think Dalton had a nice season, but I think it's unlikely he repeats it

Point is Andy Dalton was better than Carr last year with a worse supporting cast. If you already have the same type of player in that role, why break the bank for Derek Carr?
Derek Carr is a guy people think is good because he's been starting for a while and puts up okay numbers, but in reality he's meh af. Carr is a worse Kirk Cousins - no consistency game to game but the end of year numbers look good.
Dude had the league's leading rusher and the best WR in football and looked like dog shite all year. No excuse.

Pinning your hopes on Derek Carr

I’m always amazed at how people just make shite up and pretend like someone is a good quarterback.
First Winston and now Carr

With Payton I’d be all about it. Current staff id rather just try to suck for a long term answer.

The raiders were 28th in total defense this year. And have been awful every year he's been there.
No, I don't want anything to do with Derek Carr because of cost alone, but he wasn't the problem in Oakland. You aren't winning when your defense is that bad.

You could hitch your wagon to Carr for the next 3-5 years and your QB situation would be improved from now. It is not like we have a ton of cap space or a top pick walking in the door.
You could do a lot worse in the NFC than Carr. The NFC is going to be Ridder, Trask, Rookie/Darnold and our QB. Carr gives you a distinct advantage over your division for the foreseeable future.

I don't care what the defense looked like. The post you quoted was my criticism on Carr himself looking like dogshit despite elite producing talent around him, not the Raiders as a whole.

You have to trade for him right? I'm not sure he is worth trading for. Also, what's his salary like? 30 million next year?
His salary is the biggest thing for me. You have to pay him and give up assets for him? No thanks

The Saints shouldn't even be thinking about division titles or even winning seasons in 2023.
The Saints are 57 mil over the cap, The bucs are 55 over.
The Falcons are 56 million under and the Panthers are only 9 over.
You can not compete for top or maybe even middle tier FA with a cap situation like that.
The Saints need to clean up their house and get their finances in order. Period. Chasing playoffs is fine but at some point the bill is going to come due and the longer you wait the longer it will take to clean it up.

So you don't think he would've won more games if the defense was closer to top 15 instead of 28? What kind of dumb narrative are you trying to paint? Derek isn't a bad qb. When you're on a team with a shite defense and you aren't Drew Brees that is what your record will look like if you are a slightly above average NFL QB.
Do you really think that Derek is pressed into making mistakes if his defense could actually get stops? I'm not saying he's a great qb but you're literally blaming his ability to not win on him when it's pretty obvious the defense has been the problem in Oaklan/Vegas his entire career.
He was 13th in qbr this year. Probably would've been top 8 in td passes had he not been benched.

Drew Brees barely won 7 games, twice, when he had a bottom 5 defense. Those seasons aren't held against him.

Why do people here love to correlate shitty quarterbacks to drew Brees?
We saw it all off-season and the first month with IBlowJamiesSoFar and now we have have it with David fricking Carr. Heres a suggestion…..if you cannot make a sound argument without bringing up Brees, maybe you shouldn’t be making an argument.
Because if we’re going to do that….Andy fricking Dalton took cincy to the playoffs 5 consecutive seasons. That’s something Drew Brees couldn’t do. He’s already familiar with the system and we don’t have to give anything up to get him. Let’s focus on getting a better offensive line and running game.
Also none of this matters because our coaches are dipshits.

There might not be a great way to qualify this, but Derek Carr seems like one of those guys who will benefit from a change in scenery. Going from the West Coast (Oakland/Vegas) to New Orleans, where he'll be graciously accepted, could be just what he needs.
I'm skeptical, but optimistic at the same time, about Carr's future. I think a change would be good for him and I do like him as a target for the Saints.
I feel like moving up for a QB other than Young is a mistake; taking a QB in the second round might not be an awful idea (Hooker), and signing Carr to go with a solid veteran roster would be a better decision than Jimmy G, Andy Dalton, Jacoby Brissett, etc.

After that...after getting through the NFC South, I don't know. I'm just not confident in the coaching staff. But look...Dennis Allen is the mind behind the defense and that was the brightest part of the team last year (and for a few years). The offense just needs to reappear in some form. This team is not too far away.

Derek Carr IS Andy Dalton plus picks and $30 million dollars
then when Carr sucks arse and is worse than Dalton everyone is going to say Loomis is an idiot11!!!!!111!!!
Dalton is the stopgap option for now until we can draft someone, unless Jimmy G is willing to come here.

This team is not going to lose 14 games nor will it be close enough to pry away a top two pick in the future to draft the next QB. This is a 7-10 with Mike Thomas out again all year, MULTIPLE offensive line injuries and a defense that can compete with anyone.
I think the Saints need to upgrade QB now and to me, Derek Carr is that guy. If it's Lamar Jackson, cool. But that's out of this team's league.

I have a hard to equating Dalton as equal to carr. If you wanna use this year as the sample, sure. If you use the previous 5 seasons, carr by far. If you use career, carr is better.
If carr and Dalton are equal, there should be quite a fight to keep Dalton bc carr will have multiple options. Maybe NFL GMs just aren't as smart as this board
