Derek Carr is Jim Everett 2.0; Not Drew Brees 2.0

Everett was 31 when he was traded to the Saints. Derek Carr is 31.
We got 3 years out of Everett before we moved on.
We were thinking that we were getting 1988 or 1989 Everett when he showed up in 1994. He was more like 1992 and 1993 Everett.
Same thing. We're not magically getting 2016 Derek Carr that threw 28 TDs and 6 INT. Defensive Coordinators have figured him out six years later just like they had Jim Everett when we got him.
Both tried to stay gun slingers later in their career and the INTs typically piled up.
I am not sure Derek is better than Dalton. Seriously. Carr had Davante Adams and Josh Jacobs that could actually run the ball this past season & he was such a liability that they benched him the last two games.

He did well with Gruden…McDaniels seems to struggle away from New England…

Jacobs stays hurt and you can double one guy (Adams) and remove him from the game as a threat. The Saints have better players I don’t think we will ever see Drew Brees 2.0 in anyone that is the qb here that’s why they call them a generational QB, those are far and few

Look you made valid points but no one and I mean no one can possibly know what Carr will bring to the table if indeed he comes here. He's a short term solution maybe at best and he gives us a little more upside then Dalton.

Is anyone arguing he is Drew Brees 2.0?
I think most have reasonable expectations of what Carr could potentially bring. No one is trying to sell this as a must have to begin the second golden age of Saints football.

Agreed. We aren’t getting another Drew Brees most likely any time soon. But the reality is Carr is much better than Dalton and it’s not really close.

50 TD to 23 INTs doesn't sound terrible on paper for his stretch with Gruden. However, quite a few of those INTs were in the redzone and brutal timing.
Carr is not a great decision maker under pressure or a clutch winner.

Everett's first two years here he threw for an average of 3900 yds 24 TDs and 16 INts(which was not really a high number back then). He was way better than Wade Wilson and Hebert ever was in New Orleans but the defense wasn't good anymore so we still sucked.

You people are miserable. He’s an upgrade to what we had. Is he a hall of famer? Probably not but how many of those are presently in the NFL?

For real. I love reading this board, but it seems more like listening to my wife beeching more-and-more. Maybe the saints get carr... maybe they don't... maybe it works... maybe it doesn't, but the constant tantrums are awful and won't influence the saints' decision on carr at all.

I can tell you the ages of the QBs that started the Conference Championship Games: Mahomes (27), Joe Burrow (26), Jalen Hurts (24), Brock Purdy (23).
Others in the Division Round: Trevor Lawrence (23), Josh Allen (26), Daniel Jones (25), Dak Prescott (29),
Can we try to identify, draft, and develop young talent at the QB position? That process seems to be working a lot lately. It is time to do so.
Carr is not the guy to get you to a NFC Championship game - so why bother?

A NFC championship game was just played and the QBs were Hurts, Purdy and Johnson. Carr is better than at least 2 of them

Burrow, Mahomes, Lawrence, Allen, Jones, were all top 10 picks. The Saints don't have a top 10 draft pick this season.
Maybe the Saints are terrible next season and they get a top 10 pick. But that's no guarantee. And even if they do get a top 10 pick, there is no guarantee they will be able to select a QB...and even if they do draft a QB there is no guarantee. Sure, getting a Burrow, Allen, or Lawrence is ideal. But how many QBs did the Bengals, Bills, Jaguars miss on before hitting? Sounds GREAT in theory. Much tougher to execute in reality
Is Carr significantly worse than Jones or Prescott? And even before the injury Purdy was destined to be one of those guys who has a great few games...only to quickly fade into irrelevancy.
Who is the guy AVAILABLE to get you to that game? I don't disagree that Carr isn't a HOF QB, but your plan can only be as good as your options. Getting a great young QB is everyone's #1 plan. But history shows it could take decades of wandering in the QB desert before that actually happens.

Caleb Williams and Drake Maye will both get there.
Pay for our Cap sins this year. Get a QB that has similar compensation as Dalton last year. Start developing a few new pieces.

I think some people are overestimating what it’ll take to get Carr.
First, if no trade happens he’s gonna be released and free to sign with whomever he wishes. AND he has a no trade clause.
So he meets with the Saints today, decides he wants to play here. Money agreed on. Wink wink deal with Saints. Doesn’t want Saints to have to give assets to acquire him.
Saints decline to trade with Raiders. Carr rejects any trade to another team. Gets cut. Signs with Saints to a contract much less that his current deal.
There aren’t gonna be high value assets involved IMO. And he’s a QB you can win the division with. Get into the playoffs, and anything can happen.?

Let the Carr dick riders make their excuses. We’ll be getting the last laugh come early December when the Saints are still ~.500 or below.
