From the Saints website confirming Carr's retirement
quote:
Eventually, medical scans determined objectively that Derek sustained a labral tear and also had significant degenerative changes to his rotator cuff.

Dude could have hung on and collected $30 mil.
Much respect for that decision to retire.

He is forgoing his $30 mil
Well this will certainly soften most people's stance on Carr. It didn't work out here. I wish it had, obviously, but for him to forgo the money like that shows he must really be done and just wants to fade into retirement with his family.
Have to imagine the injury and miscarriage made him reevaluate his life and future.
I wish him the best and will always remember those two awesome weeks last year when we were the Super Bowl Saints

You mean like the entire league did until the 5th round?

I'm surprised he passed on that 30 mil.

Has to be something more to this story! There is No Way that D*&^head is walking away from that money out of decency or the goodness of his heart! Either way

My guy, Sanders isn’t good. You’d be losing your shite about his minicamp throw if it was Shough.

I cant see walking away from that kind of money.
why not
he has been in the league for a dozen years
his net worth has to be in the 9 digit range…

Cap wise? I’m pretty sure that is NOT true
ETA you downvoters are going to be very pisse
There are posts thinking he could have been a post 6/01 cut next year and he’d only hit 2026 for $19M and the remaining $40M would just disappear. I stopped trying to correct the Carr cap situation awhile back and will sometimes trying to through the facts out just to have it ignored
The fact that it’s being classified as a medical retirement means recovering any money will be impossible. If he just quit, they team could have settled to have a portion of the bonus returned; but that’s still a difficult process and messes up the optics around the league

Carr doesn't deserve the hate. He didn't do the parades and such like others, but he wasn't a scandal riddled rapist, he never trash talked teammates on social media, and he just forewent 30 mil apparently.
He apparently is Christian and involved in church, he has obviously established roots in Vegas so it's fine for his heart to stay there, and with his injury and the miscarriage, I respect the heck out of his decision.
Kudos and love to Derek. Just didn't work out, but he was tough on the field.
