If you haven't listened to this interview, it has great information about how it all went down. A few of the things that I found interesting is that Carr knows that the NFC sucks, sees us as a competitor with a great offensive line, has a high opinion of our coaching staff, and was absolutely aware that he didn't want to weaken the Saints by having him trade for him.

Perfectly stated.

Being a good teams with a salary cap problem is where you want to be.

I'm so tired of all the cap talk here to give a negative spin on every damn transaction. Fifteen years or so now, same dumb shite like we're doomed by the cap. Listen people, Loomis has proven it's basically monopoly money. Nick Underhill said the same thing a few days ago that all the people bickering about the cap don't know what they're talking about.

"When Sean Payton stepped away"

Is David Carr implying Payton's story has more than what's been released?

A buddy of mine from an MBA program used to work in the Dolphins Front Office in a non-player personnel role, but still was in the know regarding team personnel decisions. (he now works in the NHL). He mentioned to me that while the salary cap does factor into personnel decisions, it’s far more about real cash the owner is willing to spend. The cap can be manipulated with non-guaranteed money, void years, etc; cash expenditures can’t. His point was while the cap does affect decisions, roster management and roster composition is much more about how much cash the owner is willing to spend by keeping players.

Don't you know everyone here knows far more than everyone in the front office?

Good interview.

My main takeaway was the Saints players like, respect and wanted Carr onboard.

I'll trust that over internet GM's everyday the week.

Said no one ever if they're being honest.

I'd respect him a lot more if he just said, "The NFC sucks and the Saints paid the most."

Was referring to Sean’s suspension. Not him leaving the team. He was stating that Pete has been under Sean for so long and at one time called all the plays ‘while Sean stepped away’.

You can’t say the Saints don’t try to build their offensive line up more than any team in the league. If Penning doesn’t get hurt and starts, Saints would have had 4 first rounders and a high 2nd rounder starting.

Now contrast that to what the Raiders built for him.

Interesting that Michael Thomas helped recruit Carr to the Saints.

Agreed. The Saints have prioritized investing in both lines. Although I don't always agree with the selections or draft cost (moving up), it's still a strong strategy imo. Unfortunately, injuries and under-performance at times have had adverse effects.

Im assuming that MT didn't want to play with either Dalton or Winston.

One of the biggest points.

Means he wants to be back and looks at carr as a good qb.
