I listened to it on my way home today. I like how he talked about them personally and how some of the decision was based on how Grupe's personality helped their decision since they were a push in kicking.

Same.
Rizzi has a lot of experience in coaching special teams and that's unique compared to other position coaches.

That was a good listen.
He mentioned Hedley’s rugby style of kicking was allowed in college but not in the NFL. Thought that was interesting and telling. Also, rugby punter, I’m already imagining fake punts with him plowing through the pile.
Not mentioned, but relevant to Grupe…. I was sold on him in the last preseason game on the missed field goal. I’m probably embellishing a little, but it looked like it could have been good from 65-70.

AWS tracked it as good from 68.

I think grupe is going to end up being a win in the long run.
I was a big Lutz fan but something has been off the last couple years.

Like an injury, huh.

How the fuk you get injured being a kicker

I didn’t realize Grupe was only 14/19 last year.. same percentage as Lutz

It was more than an injury.
He wasn't hurt last year. It was his confidence. He even spoke about it.

People forget that Lutz was some shitty kicker for Georgia State before he got here, so I’m not too concerned by Grupe’s Percentages at Notre Dame if he’s kicking well in practice. We already see how he is doing in the games. College is a different animal balancing being a student athlete and the hash marks are much wider. The coaching probably isn’t as good either.

Well, for example, when someone like Granville has his return team take a cheap shot on the kicker, it can happen.

I listened to Rizzi yesterday on the radio. If you want to hear a true football guy he’s a great listen. Especially if you want to get some special teams knowledge.

Rizzi spoke about this in the video in OP (think it was an 18 minute press conference.
They do not look at the percentages, and very little film, from when kickers/punters are in college. The kickers/punters go to specialist camps, in addition to Pro Days & combine, and they study the film from there. They do not focus on the college info because the hashes are different, it's a different ball, they usually don't have the same snapper/holder, the practices are different (primarily because snappers & holders have different duties)...

Heckin love Blake Grupe after doing a little research on him - he's now my 3rd or 4th favourite Saint behind Derek and Latti and Alvin
