Here is a discussion on it on ESPN this morning...

@Espngreeny
predicts a team will trade back to the bottom of the first round on draft night to select Stanford QB Davis Mills.

@nfldraftscout
: "I don't even know if it would have to be a team trading back here. I think you can look at the New Orleans Saints ..."

The only reason to draft a QB in the back end of round 1 would be to secure the 5th year option.

But I can't see the Saints drafting the future when they want to see what Jameis can do

Value. If they believe in the guy then they will do it.

If Mills is the BPA on their board at 28, they will draft him without a 2nd thought. If he's not high on their list, it could be the year they finally trade down.

Got to have Corner , linebacker, or pass rusher first , before QB. I would take a flyer on QB somewhere in 3rd round

Mills only started 11 games in college. Having Winston on a year deal actually gives more reason to draft and development him

Mills has a lot of traits that SP likes, I reckon. Decisive, gets it out quick, accurate, protects it well. Going to watch this one close

Seems silly to waste premium picks when we need to replace a lot of the roster. We have a qb with a load of potential for very cheap. Either we will be in a better spot to draft our long term qb next year or the organization will have a better idea if that guy is in fact Jameis.

Taysom is our QB.

He was extended this year at a cost of nearly 17 million.

We have no QB's on our roster heading into 2022 in which we aren't in great cap space at all and lots of voids at important positions already.

Yes CB, LB, OT, DE all make a lot of sense but its hard to argue against a QB selection if they love a guy.

For one, you have 5 picks in the top 105 or whatever this year. Ample opportunity to add depth. Good players don’t mean too much if you have bad QB play anyway

Secondly, a first round QB is on a rookie deal for 5 years. It affords you a lot of luxuries with future drafts and spending money in free agency

If Winston is good, he will cost. You want to find the next guy via the draft, I you can

What’s actually written is complete speculation. Doesn’t mean we are interested in him at all in the 1st round. And there was a report last week saying we were interested in Trask.

Let’s all agree that we don’t know.

What’s his deal?

Huge arm? Mobile?

His numbers aren’t exactly great.

He was the top QB recruit in the county coming out. Has had 2 ACLs (one in HS, one at Stanford). Only made 11 starts, which even isn’t a full season of games

Louis Riddick

quote:

QB Davis Mills of Stanford has some of the most intriguing tape to watch of any player in this draft. He is the off the radar developmental QB that should be on the radar. Classic pocket passer, adequate mobility, good arm strength, exceptional touch...could be an absolute steal.

Maybe I should say he should be getting talked about ALOT more as a high upside prospect. I know I am going to be going forward. The UCLA game at the end of the season, with how he responded to adversity, was classic.

PFF

quote:

A lot of what you’re buying into with Mills is what he could become. We’ve seen the former five-star quarterback make only 10 starts his entire college career. Already, though, he's flashed some necessary skills. He’s very accurate and efficient within the structure of an offense. In fact, if you take away screens and RPOs, Mills had the second-highest accuracy rate in 2020 of any quarterback on this list
.

Pro Day

quote:

On a windy, rainy day in Palo Alto, Mills made all throws he was asked to make, completing 50 of 54 passes, and also showed some surprising athleticism, running a 4.66 and 4.58 in both his 40-yard dashes.
"He answered the bell,” said NFL Network draft expert Daniel Jeremiah. “A lot of pressure on Davis Mills with a limited number of starts (11), no combine, no all-star game opportunities, this was his one shot, and I thought he crushed it.
“He crushed it from the testing numbers that we got, and I thought it was a clean, really pure throwing session that he put on in the rain. The day could not have gone any better for Davis Mills.”

“That really showed with Davis (during Friday’s pro day), in the wind, in the rain, moving around and throwing 45-, 50-, 55-yard balls that cut through the all that, was really, really impressive.”

I’ve been ringing the Mills bell for weeks but I was hoping we could get him with our 2nd round pick but now that’s off the table. He will go anywhere from 20-50. As far as a pure down the field passer there’s few his equals in this class. There’s rumors Sean likes Ian Book from Notre Dame though.
