re: Could Stanford QB Davis Mills be on the Saints radar at 28?

I got him today with the 98th pick on my simulator. Seemed like a steal. Got LB, CB, QB, OG/C, DT, TE WR all in the draft. I hope they pan out. ??
Sorry the point of this was laughing at people throwing names for the first rounds and the online stuff saying 3rd-5th round. Just kinda humourous to me. Carry on. Of course I trust the people over the ever changing online pools

You're the GM. If Coach REALLY likes Mills, do you:
A. Pick him @ 28
B. Trade back in for pick #31 with next year's 1st and 3rd pick
C. Trade for #31 with this year's #2 and both #3's.

I’d be OK with him in the 2nd round. Maybe. I think either he or Trask will be there in the 3rd, though. That might be the sweet spot if we want a developmental QB.

the point is to not draft a guy... go get your guy.

quote:So, you've seen enough of him in his 11 starts on the west coast to make that conclusion? As far as Book, the only "rumor" was Mike D speculating because Payton mentioned his name on a Dan Patrick interview when asked what QB reminds him of himself.
I’ve been ringing the Mills bell for weeks but I was hoping we could get him with our 2nd round pick but now that’s off the table. He will go anywhere from 20-50. As far as a pure down the field passer there’s few his equals in this class. There’s rumors Sean likes Ian Book from Notre Dame though.

Don't like a taking a QB who wasn't good in college until later rounds. Historically, passing them up doesn't come back to bite you.

I've seen enough of his highlight film to know that if Payton likes him then i'm comfortable with the pick. He's a great passer. Has touch, enough arm strength, throws effortlessly etc. Had he not been injury riddled, we're likely looking at a top 10 guy.

Didn’t you just say that Taysom was the guy? I’m starting to think you are trying to break a down voting record of some type.

Yes he is the guy right now.
But Taysom is not under contract past this year at the moment. Neither is Jameis.

I use the Fanspeak draft simulator.. I have noticed that Mills' draft stock had been going up. I was able to draft him in the late 3rd round now he is going in the early 3rd round..

If you like the kid you pick him. Who cares where he’s picked only matters how he plays

Don’t draft QBs who weren’t good in college is a buttoned up strategy
Anonymous college coach
quote:
QB not getting enough talk, per one college coach: Stanford’s Davis Mills: “Some of the throws he made—holy shite. He’s big and thick, accurate. Moves well in the pocket. There would be more people raving about him if there was a combine this year."
Jim Nagy, head of Senior Bowl
quote:
Had chance to watch @StanfordFball QB Davis Mills throw during his pre-draft training in Mobile. Powerfully built athlete that can move and rip it. Starting to generate some buzz now around his pro-day and it's justified. Mills is Day 2 guy that teams could hit on as starter.
Coach Shaw

“We were throwing at the end of practice the other day and he threw it 70 yards into the wind ... he can spin it with anybody in the league right now.”

Yeah but that doesn't mean it's wrong. Maybe he's the guy who bucks the trend but I'd rather not spend a high pick to take the chance.

Was hoping for him with one of the comp picks. Would be hesitant about using a 1st on a guy with so few starts and 2 ACL surgeries.

I feel like we have so many needs that we don’t take a QB this year unless one just falls to us unexpectedly or CSP loves a guy.
There’s QB talk every damn year. Next year we will be talking about Kedon Slovis, Sam Howell, Spencer Rattler and Bo Nix and how CSP loves one of them and we have to move up to get one of them.
We need a CB, LBer and DT.

Major need at other positions, but this guy has fallen off the radar. A lot of upside that could really develop into a top NFL QB. I would be surprised if they go QB with the current pick & doubt they will move up for a QB.

That would cause a melt of epic proportions here.

If Winston is good, he will cost. You want to find the next guy via the draft, I you can
If Winston is good then he’s worth the cost though. His ceiling is astronomical if we can limit the bad. You would be likely paying for a top 10 guy. If he’s able to elevate the team after all of the turnover he’d be worth every penny. Just think there will always be these fringe guys like mills to develop in the future and it would be better if you can bring one in when the team isn’t stretched so thin.
