Here's the catch: if we let him walk we get hit for $18.76 mil next year. If we structure like we always do we get hit for only $12.52 mil tips.
Loomising in a nutshell. Then we can praise him for saving 6.5 mil by retaining Cam for the mess he created

We have a potentially very promising future with Shough and we’re not winning it next year. Take the hit like a responsible org and move forward with the future.

I’m glad someone said it. I don’t have anything to support this other than with my eyes, but it seemed liked almost all of his sacks were coverage sacks. He didn’t affect qbs. Chase Young was the only guy on the DL consistently generating pressure. If we bring Cam back it’s because of his leadership.

10M base, heavy incentives that can bring it up to 16M. Some incentives really really easy to hit. Practice bonus, $1M bonus for dressing for 16 games, etc. Incentives on the back end that he actually has to work for.

It is true that he wasn't beating his guy like Chase immediately, but he was always in position to make the sack. You can't say the same about our other DEs.
One funny thing I saw yesterday is he was constantly getting chipped and double teamed. It was like the Falcons didn't care about Chase, they just didn't want Cam to get another sack

I'm fine with paying him for the leadership, locker room, and bring a rotational DE.
What we still need is someone to make granderson replaceable or back to a backup role. We need a speed rusher who can bend and disrupt.

This is silly. Pushing cap into the future during a rebuild is not a good idea. It's like people have already forgotten the lessons of the last few years.
Maybe we got so lucky with Shough that they can make a run next year. Fine, but don't abandon the plan on these hopes.

Recklessly doing it was always the problem. But the reality is, they do need to push some money down the road as they are currently over the cap and have less than 40 guys on the roster. So some can kicking was always inevitable. The question is, does Mickey do enough to keep some key vets, sign some 3rd tier FAs with potential and rely on draft picks. Or does he go all in and getting $50M+ under the cap (don’t recall the number bone worked up) and try to get the splash FAs.

We’re all high as a kite on Shough. But pushing more than what is needed to get compliment and flexible in the second half of his rookie contract is nuts to me.
Continue to build the young nucleus of this roster through the draft and if he has another strong season after the league has film on him THEN start making the bigger moves.
If he’s who we think he is then simply some halfway decent guard play and a few more replacement level or better targets should allow him to continue his progression nicely.

If Cam is anything other than in Black and Gold, or in front of a camera with a mic in his hand, it will be travesty.

We have cap room in 2027 and 2028. We need to minimize putting dead money into those years. It's not 2017 anymore. Quit mortgaging the future Loomis.

3.75 mill/year over the next 5 years if he walks.
Perspective means everything.

It accelerates to the current season as soon as it voids. Yes perspective means everything, but so does understanding how the cap works.
