Not saying he won't move up, but Mickey has said several times that in the days leading up to the draft he likes to call the teams ahead of him and get a feel for the cost to move up. Basically, lay the groundwork in the event there is a desire to reach for a guy, and the price may not be too high.

Some of those teams he calls has leakers (not suggesting the Saints don't have any either), and then we get a bunch of smoke in the days before the draft

There's always going to be "smoke" about trading up by the Saints because the past 20 or years of history suggest the Saints ONLY trade up...not down. So if someone is trying to predict a trade up, the Saints are always a reasonable bet as one of the teams who might.

Have heard people say we are trading up for an edge or J. Love.

A lot of that is happening this year with the time change from 10 minutes down to 8 minutes. GMs are talking about getting parameters for deals in place instead of potentially missing the pick while they negotiate.

One source

A new eight-minute draft clock forces front offices to pre-negotiate trades

Previously, teams had 10 minutes in the first round, but the NFL wants to trim time off the primetime spectacle and give fans a more streamlined experience overall. Peters says that change doesn’t add pressure to the moment, but rather emphasizes the importance of the preparation that leads into it. "Talking to other GMs on the front end, if there is a deal, which you might not ever make it, at least getting the parameters, you're not hemming and hawing in those eight minutes trying to work out a deal, you kind of have the parameters ahead of time if that is something you would do,” Peters revealed.

One week from today, all of that preparation will turn into action. What action? We’ll all wait and watch together, as months of effort get boiled down to eight minutes of decision-making, with no less than the future of Washington’s NFL franchise hanging in the balance.

IMO, Reese is the only guy I go up to #3 for, and I hope we don't do it. He redefines your defense and we have no one like him on the roster.

I don't know if it's us, but Glazer said yesterday that he knows of something big toward the top of the round (not 3) but couldn't say yet

Prediction:

The Giants at 5 determine what the Saints do. If the Giants take Tyson, then the Saints stay put and pick at 8. If the Giants don't take Tyson, the Saints trade with Cleveland at 6 to jump ahead of Washington to take Tyson at 6

I agree about Reese, and the cost won’t be as much as in years past due to lack of qbs at the top. But this roster has holes all over. I don’t want to give up picks next year or even 2nd rounders. A really good player in the same tier will be available at 8

I'm ok with moving up as long as they don't have to move next years first.

Jeff Ireland has a history of this exact trade in a weaker class when he traded up for Dion Jordan when he was the GM of the Dolphins. He traded pick 12 and 42 for pick 3. We also know the Cardinals want an OT but don't want one at 3, so they are probably more desperate to move down than we would be to move up, so a deal could be made.

Again, I am not saying that we should do it, but if Reese becomes Micah Parsons, a second round pick is not much to go get him.

What about this year's second? I think it would take at least that to move to 6
