Looks good, but they'll have to redo it when Anthony Davis brings home a Larry O'Brien trophy.

I don't think a statue should be built of a guy who was a cheap bastard for a couple of decades, made an arse of himself during the 2005 season, and looked for any opportunity to move the team to San Antonio. We can thank Paul Tagliabue for keeping the Saints in Nola.

Benson has more than made amends. Any lingering doubt or resentment should have been forgiven when he saved the NBA as well. What do you want from the guy?

I have no issue with this statue. That man dancing around like an idiot with a mardi gras umbrella is about as iconic as you can get when referring to the Saints. I just think they hand out statues like elementary school participation awards nowadays. No mystique involved with it anymore.

By the way, this has been in the works for awhile. And it was initiated without Tom's knowledge. His wife was involved with the planning of the event.

I can believe this. He absolutely deserves it. His presence made this a much better city and state. We owe him a lot of gratitude for what he's done over the years.

Exactly plus the climate/support has been completely different after Katrina than before.

This just seems like self-aggrandizement to me.

I think it borders on hubris when an organization owned by the person in the statue puts up a statue to him. There was no great movement from among the public to suggest that a statue should be erected in his honor.

It was his wife that had the idea. Hey, don't get me wrong... it's a sweet idea. Very kind and thoughtful of her. But to me, statues in public spaces should have strong support... and originate from the public itself.

I get that he "changed his ways" once the team finally started winning and made him a LOT more money, but that's not enough for a statue, in my opinion. Where is the heroism? Where is the inspirational leadership?

Can you list one famous quote from Tom Benson?

Well, he DID say he was committed to New Orleans "forever, as long as the community commits to me."

Dunno about all of you, but to me, that doesn't quite sound like a statue-worthy guy.
