Let's not forget him trying to move the Saints to Los Angeles in the late 90's.

I don't think a statue should be built of a guy who was a cheap bastard for a couple of decades, made an arse of himself during the 2005 season, and looked for any opportunity to move the team to San Antonio. We can thank Paul Tagliabue for keeping the Saints in Nola.
Tagliabue credits goodell for keeping the saints in nola.

How peculiar.

I can not believe some of the hate for Benson in this thread. It's freaking baffling. Give the man grief for trying to make a business decision when everyone outside of a couple hundred thousand in NOLA thought our city was dead and gone, never to return. His not moving the team was perhaps the single biggest turning point in this city coming back stronger than before. Not to mention all the other things that he's done for this city, including keeping our NBA team here.
He may have waffled in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina. However, he's more invested in this city than ever before. It is almost his dying wish to watch the city and his family get to enjoy winning sports teams while he still breaths. No one can claim he is being cheap, spending literally millions of dollars to make sure that we are competitive in each market.
It's early, and I'm still halfway asleep so
TL:DR - You people suck if you can't see how much Benson has meant to this city AFTER Katrina.

Really? You undermined your own argument by minimizing a couple of hundred thousand people.

so we should forget everything pre katrina?
Am I glad he's doing what he's doing now? Sure, but it doesn't make me like the man.

In the grand scheme of the population of this country, that is roughly .1% if I'm rounding up and being generous. That's not undermining an argument.
I'm just saying it's quite sad that over half of the posts in this thread are "San Antonio" related instead of congratulating Mr. Benson on helping bring a Lombardi Trophy to this city.
