I don’t think this is some huge plot by the league to force the Saints’ hand, bunch

Its not a plot, its just the typical draft week crap.

Everyone knows the Saints are desperate, and everyone knows the Saints are loose with picks.

There are about 1.5 million rumors and stuff like this ever year week of

not really We're sitting here with dudes from old dominion and northern iowa and hoping they develop. Spending 3 years in a prime SEC practice environment does count a long ways.

The odds of the Saints finding a quality starter or two with 5th, 6th, and/or 7th round picks are relatively low.

The Saints have four fifth round picks, two sixths and a seventh. That’s seven players. The Saints had a losing record even though we had a weak schedule and a weak division.

Should we be able to find two starters? No, but we could, and we should find some depth.

In the past we trade away potential trying to make home run selections. That really hadn’t worked all that well.

Unless Smart is releasing UGA practice film, which he wouldn’t do in a billion years, I don’t give a frick about Mims’ practice reps

They are not going to draft 7 players in those rounds.

I would bet my life on it

Because the 2025 draft might suck and have 2 first round worthy OTs. Or maybe it’ll be better, point is neither of us know.

This is precisely why the Saints should absolutely not trade up in this draft. The idea of “getting your guy” or not “settling for a lesser player” sounds cool and macho I guess but it’s utterly meaningless except for QB, which ironically is the one position the Saints have now tied themselves to a lesser player because that’s all they could get

The difference between the top 4-5 OT in this draft and the 2nd round and later guys is marginal at best. People get to hung up on these rankings as if they are some mathematical truth instead of what they are which is projections. The guy ranked as the 12th best prospect may turn out to be a stud, the #2 guy a bust. We don’t know. The Saints obviously need players at OT, better to o take a couple even in later rounds than to go all in on “your guy” because if you miss, you’re doubly screwed.

Trading 14 and 45 to move up a few notches.
And have the team right in front of where we trade up to take the OT we target.

I’ve seen this movie already.

Lattimore =/= Mahomes

Exactly. If we were one tackle away from competing, but we are not. Far from it. Our drafts have been shite and we have been devoid of picks for years with the idiotic trade ups for Olave and Davenport by Loomis. Time to pay the piper now. If we can get an extra 2nd by moving back, yiu have to.

With that being said, Loomis is an idiot and he will not do it. There’s alot better chance of him giving away our 2nd to move up for Alt….

If you’re a OT away, you go out sign the top guy in free agency

The Saints need to restock the shelves and draft the best available

That SHOULD be the plan. Unfortunately, the cap situation has made the draft the only place to get an OT and Loomis isn't capable of not filling this year's need.

Who would be the OT equivalent of Mahomes? Joe Thomas is a HOF LT. He did not miss a start for 10 years was All Pro 6 times and all decade for the 2010. The Browns never had a winning record with him. He was AP years when they won 3-4-5 games.

You have zero long term solution at either tackle spot unless Penning performs a miracle.

They’ve put a tremendous amount of resources into the OL and for them to have no long term solution already is kind of sad.

So what does that tell you? Maybe you just take the best player & let everything fall how it may

The Saints have been calling teams to try to trade up, and I assume they want one of the top offensive tackles. I'm not sure how they have the OTs stacked on their board, but I do feel highly confident that New Orleans will be taking a bookend blocker in Round 1.

From Daniel Jeremiah’s mock draft today. The pick was Troy Fautanu

This team is in no position right now to be trading away picks to get one guy.

Letting all the OTs go and picking Verse or Turner at 14 accomplishes what, exactly?

It makes our team better just like drafting an OT would. A great edge rusher is just as valuable and important as an OT in today’s NFL.

It’s what happens when you have a GM who’s been there as long as Loomis has. Your team develops drafting patterns that fricking Stevie Wonder can see.

Loomis has us buried ten feet under the casket that is buried underground in cap hell so we couldn’t do that anyway.

Neither Verse nor Turner are “great” prospects and we have 2 starting DEs. We have zero starting OTs.
