With that contract & AK’s ego, I see a trade coming, sooner than later. Don’t wait till after the season & get nothing.

His ego? What “ego” has Kamara shown since he’s been here? I swear, the crap people make up in here is comical.

I don't think AK gets $16M/yr, but he probably aint getting anything less than #13M/yr either so all those suggesting $10M are crazy. That's the market these days for top RBs and AK is indeed a top RB. AK has been elite since he entered the league with the exception of the last half of the season last year after returning from an injury that he was obviously not 100% healed from. That's not his fault. And for those idiots saying "well he shouldn't play if he's not 100%", you are just idiots who sound entitled to only see AK at 100%. And don't forget that AK at 80% is better than Dewayne Washington at 110%.

Now the topic of whether or not to pay a RB in our system that much % of our salary cap, well that's another debate. AK is elite, and we saw in 2018 when he went out of the Falcons game how offense completely sputtered, but last year when he was out for several games we also saw Murray step up and Payton change up his gameplan and adjust to his personnel. I think we have to atleast listen if other teams call about a trade and see what kind of compensation they are offering. We are already paying MT13 a bundle, will have to pay Ramzcyk soon as well and I believe they are both more important than AK. I believe we end up extending AK, keep him in 2020 & 2021 while we transition from Brees to Taysom, and once Payton has a full season with Taysom at QB with AK and see what direction they want the offense to go. If we end up going to more of a power run, I could see us trading AK at that point

Is it? I don’t see it.

We won’t pay him 13 per.

Regardless of minor injury,

800 yards rushing and 500 yards catching does not dictate that kind of money. Oh and 6 TD's.

When did a high ankle sprain and deep knee bruise become a minor injury?

I’d say it’s debatable McCaffery is the best back. He’s force fed the ball far more than any other RB.

Not debatable. He's force fed the ball because he's the best playmaker in the NFL at RB, or possibly any position. He should have won MVP last year.

Yeah the games that the panthers did win was bc of CMC. He actually made Kyle allen look good at times.

He was awesome, but he was not more valuable than the other MVP candidates.

It’s def debatable for one. And as much as I’m not a true believer in Lamar Jackson he absolutely deserved mvp last year and it’s not even a debate.

Is it?

Christian McCaffrey $16M
Zeke Elliot $15M
Lev Bell $13.1
David Johnson $13
Derrick Henry $10.2 (Franchise tag)
Kenyan Drake $8.4
Melvin Gordon $8

The market is not what you or I think it should be, it is what it is. The Panthers & McCaffrey just set it at $16M/yr. Looking at age and production, you tell me where you think AK should be. I'm not beating the drum to pay a RB, even AK a ton of money, but the only RBs I might rank ahead of him are McCaffrey, Elliot, and Henry. When Henry signs his deal I imagine it will be in the $15M range. I think the floor for AK's new deal is Leveon Bell's at $13M

Gotta account for the cap increase. % of the cap is important to note

Even if Kamara got $13mil, it’s not the same as David Johnson or Bell’s $13 mil

I think Barkley is up there in the top 3. I think he is definitely better than Zeke. Didn’t do much last year bc of an ineffective offense and injuries but he is probably the most talented back in the league. He was a monster his rookie year. He has a couple years left before he gets paid but will set the market when he does.

Not that this will effect Kamara’s contract but just wanted throw out that Barkley is a beast.

I agree with you and Gyno, and both of you help to make my point. Especially if lets say AK doesn't get an extension until next off-season and say it is $13M then it would be even more of a "bargain" $13M compared to Bell & Johnson. I didn't include Barkley because I was only looking at relevant existing contracts, but you are right, Barkley will reset the market and surpass McCaffrey's when his next contract comes

I know I'm gonna get crapped on for this, but the Saints should trade to get into the second round and get CEH from LSU. Same skill set as AK so he's an insurance policy and you have the option to line up AK as a slot receiver. When next year rolls around you are set to say bye to AK and have his replacement for a fraction of the price.

If we dont go the draft route i would keep an eye on Bell and the Jets. Its been rumored that gase never wanted him to begin with and they may be looking to get rid of him.

Personally i would just get rid of gase . but if they really want to move on from him they may outright release him or we can work out a trade and have them absorb some of the money.

I think the only way he gets that number is if it's a sure thing Brees is gone and the cap number increases by a bigger margin than it did this past year. I want AK to stick around, but I also wouldnt blame them for taking a different direction post-Brees.

I'm also in favor of adding another RB regardless of whether AK holds out or not and regardless of whether we re-sign him.

Brees retiring doesn’t make too much of a difference. We will still be paying him for the next few years. We are only paying him like 2 million this year so the rest will be coming out in the upcoming years.

Cap increase and Warford, Cook, Demario Davis could come off the book after this season. They’re 3 of your biggest eaters of cap space. Armstead off the books in ‘21 is another big cap eater. Then Brees

There is a path to sign Kamara, Lattimore and Ramcyzk. Again, a bit part of it is investing in the future in the draft.. acquire more picks? Adding OL to replace Warford and Armstead

I genuinely believe SP is going to do as much as he can to retain AK.
