Zion still a centerpiece?

Is this true? Is this just to get his trade interest up? Is the Pels front office watching the OKC / Spurs series and thinking Zion is what we need? Maybe he will hit 2 three pointers next season .
Just listening to Locked on Pelicans, said Mannix reported coaching candidates were told Zion is staying.
Did internet search . C/p; Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated has reported that the New Orleans Pelicans have telegraphed to coaching candidates their intention to keep Zion Williamson for the next iteration of the team

Zion is a centerpiece
For a bottom 5 team in the NBA
Tbh, he does not fit at all with 4 of our better players. Fears, Queen, Missi, Herb
He should have not been allowed to half arse trot around for 61 games last year and increase his guaranteed salary from 25 mil to 42 mil bc it basically tanks his trade value to be at that salary level
I'd still trade Zion for almost anything. Late first, shooter w pulse, expiring contract
He's a loser and he limits the on court development of Queen especially. He's also not a good mentor for Fears to be around.
He's not hated enough by the city and fanbase. He gets far too much credit in year 7 and 8 for finally doing the bare minimum of being in shape, playing through an occasional injury, and mostly doing and saying the right things on and off the court.

50/50 chance he comes back 300 lbs plus. Pelicans aren’t serious about winning

He just doesn’t fit the modern nba. It’s going to become harder and harder to be in the floor if you can’t make 3s and defend.
At the current trend, non 3 point shooters without elite other skills like Giannis or Gobert will not be in playoff rotations.
Zion is a perfect example of the game passing a player by. Westbrook is another.
Queen’s top priority had to be developing a 3.

Why is everyone so focused on calling Zion a centerpiece when he is just a bigger piece no pun intended he’s an efficient 21 to 26 point per game potential scorer that should be able to create open shots for other shooters in the correct roster

He only has 2 years left on his contract. His next contract will probably be less than 25mil a year. He can help teams with a reasonable contract, but he can't as a max contract guy. He may have some value next year as an expiring especially if teams feel like they could resign him to a mid level type contract. I think his future is still a 6th man type that will get you buckets and help you stay in game when best players are on the bench.

Queen's top priority is to work on his footwork. He's not a five and not agile enough to play in space against fours (certainly not elite ones like Giannis, Kat, Durrant, Randle, Chet, Siakim, Paolo, or even Grandpa LeBron.). He's at least two years away from being court-worthy on the defensive end (if ever) and therefore unplayable (that's not what I say, that's what his draft profile said).
Defensively, he's Zion Williamson on steroids and that's not a good thing.
DEFENSE!!! DEFENSE!!! DEFENSE!!!

If he's here he should be a centerpiece. No use of letting be an after thought like he was under Borrego.

Agreed. Borrego made him camp out on the sidelines. He also needs to work on his rebounding.

Is this a serious question? Because the team thinks he's a centerpiece and he's going to make 85 million dollars over the next two years. You can't seriously be this obtuse.

We all know what Zion is, we've seen him on and off the court for 7 seasons. He's not a player that as a main piece contributes to winning basketball, that much is clear. We have to move on if we are ever going to be a winning team but the franchise seems set on keeping him so we are going to keep on losing. It's pretty simple. No need to talk about what "should be" happening when we have 7 years of evidence of what has happened with him.

I think he remains a big piece that we're trying to make the best of. But we aren't going to give him away for little value like we were nearly almost forced to. I just don't see zion as being a piece that's stopping others from blossoming around him. Trey should have taken a bigger step forward last year. Lets hope he does this year.

i disagree with your overly dramatic assessments. He's not a player just chucking up shots all game. He passes well and his handle has improved a little bit. We aren't getting a better player to replace him and no max player wants to sign with us anyways.

I don’t understand why Zion is the centerpiece. He’s never healthy and they’ve built numerous teams around him and barely won.
Also, what’s the point of spending all that draft capital on Queen if you keep Zion? Queen plays the same position and is better in today’s game than Zion.

let's run it back!!! what's the definition of insanity again?

The only thing Zion is , is a perfect example of "you never know how a kid will act when his pockets are full of money".
You can't coach heart.
Zion wants to play in the NBA, he does not want to be a professional NBA player.

Of a second unit, yes! Let him rack up easy points against other teams' bench. Sixth Man of the Year, yo!
