I don’t understand how bodies like Zion work. He works out for 2 weeks and puts on 15th of muscle. He sits out 4 months and puts on 50lbs of Cheetos. Then he works out for 4 months and looks more jacked than I’ve ever seen him.
Dudes spend a lot of money on drugs in an attempt to make gains half as fast as Zion. The only other person I can think of who has similar stories is Bo Jackson. That Bo knows 30 for 30 talks about how Bo couldn’t work out because he gets too big too quickly and couldn’t play baseball effectively. Bo was never a fatass, but that’s the best I can think of.
Side note: post basketball Zion is going to be colossal

So I was listening to a podcast with Christian Clark and some Blazers media guy, they were talking about Zion and his trainer and what he does for training. Clark pointed out that part of the problem is Zion trains like every other basketball player which makes no sense because his body type is so unique. For instance, he lifts weights and then basically runs around the track a couple times. Clark’s point was one of the problems they need to find a way one for Zion not to keep bulking, making muscle and two- to find other ways to be more limber/flexible rather than just more muscle. Clark here was pointing blame here on Zions personal trainer that he’s not training him right. Basically he should be toning down and finding other ways to help his body deal with these injuries- yoga, flexing, biometric exercises, etc. Sometimes Clark is full of shite so who knows but if true he makes a good point. He needs to find a way to tone down his muscle mass(obviously 235 is crazy) but you can find a way to maintain muscle strength but decrease muscle mass. I think most can agree Zion needs to get people around him- whoever he has around him - trainers, chefs, pr people- they’re not helping him.

Why?
I have proved this over and over. To be an effective long term player, he needs to be in the range of 235. Even that is high. No player, especially one that elevates as much as him, has ever played a long time with that high of a BMI.
The problem has always been how Zion perceives himself. He wants to be big. He believes that his bulk gives him power. That is how he compensates for his smaller measurables. It's just not realistic and is contrary to history.
Wladimir Klitschko was listed at 6'6, 240. That is a cut and defined heavyweight champion. Why would Zion need more muscle and bulk than him?

How many players his height and weight have his kind of muscle mass though?
Normally you say 6'6" and 275lbs and you picture Glen Davis.

I don't think it matters if Zion weighs 275 or 245, he'll be stronger than everyone else at any weight in between those numbers.
His big arse shoulders aren't going to magically get smaller. He's a big arse dude, and his body was meant to carry muscle. He'll be strong and muscular no matter what his weight is, and i say that in comparison to every other nba player.

None.
Do you believe that is a benefit? Should every player pack on as much muscle as possible.

I give examples all the time. But people just brush them aside. It's a gym bro culture that idolizes muscles and believes there is no downside to having too much. There is a reason you don't see 250lb marathon runners..

They are not basketball players, cause they don't exist.
I have to pull football players and boxers. Basketball players can't be that size.

I don't have a dog in this hunt, but for comparison:
Zion - 6'6" 284
Karl Malone - 6'9" 259
Chuck B - 6'6" 252
So, compared to some similar players and body types, it appears that Zion could stand to slim down.

You don’t see many 6’6” marathon runners either, fwiw

I think we can all agree though if he can get to mid 260ish that it might be best for him for his health, injury wise and long term.

260 would be ideal imo.
Some people are just built differently. Lebron James won a title at 275, according to his cavalier teammates. Now he claims to play at 250 or so.
I’ve never heard anyone mention his weight as a negative, but how many 6’8” dudes at 275 are there? Not many, dudes a freak
284 is too heavy, I think most all of us can agree with that; but I don’t see 235 being physically possible unless he loses muscle mass

He’s also taller. But I credit Lebron hes very innovative and does different things with his body. Cryotherapy, going to europe for knee therapy, etc. Like him or hate him, Lebron has good smart professional people around him. Zion on the other hand- needs to improve his inner circle.

I don't know that it's ever been proven, but people think LeBron was around 280 when he was playing for the Heat.

Dog, everyone knows this. I even listed Lebron’s height.
I agree that it would be phenomenal if Zion could get a program together like Lebron, but that is not what I’m talking about. He’s just a muscular guy with a big frame. I just meant my Lebron body comparison to contrast to Karl Malone’s above

Pels use Saints faculty now and then.
Meetings, fan events, offices, etc

You sure that wasn’t with the Heat? Bron was huge in those last couple of years with the Heat. Then he lost some weight when he went to Cleveland

Yeah you’re correct. I realized I wrote Cavaliers when the next guy posted 280 for the heat. Unintentional, but the damage was already done
Posted on 6/16/23 at 10:53 am to SCLSUMuddogs
Lebron didn't stay at that weight for long. He trimmed down soon after. It's just isn't sustainable long term.

He went on some crazy diet I remember to slim down. But he has a lot of discpline and will power. I hope Zion gets that one day.
