I'm sure that was part of it.
I think the other part was "We're not catering to you anymore. You don't get your own special coach, and you don't get your own special rules. We need you to step up and be a leader, and that doesn't happen when you train away from the team."
All the trade chatter simply serves to tell everyone, including Zion, that the league doesn't value him very highly right now.
So, I think all of this is Griff trying to motivate Zion to do what he's supposed to do.

I agree with your points but what I’m baffled by is how David Griffin literally has to play a parent to a 22 year old man who last summer he signed to a big deal. Have the pelicans done this with any other franchise player?? I get his talent is extremely elite but this constant treatment of either coddling him or now being a hard nosed parent is kind of ridiculous.

Guys like that should not be credentialed media members of the pelicans. Hes been doing this thing for years and its sad he has no actual connections with the organization to break any real news. Dude literally just talk shite for an hour everyday on his pod based strictly off his personal opinion.

Maybe we aren’t trading Zion to Charlotte for Scoot Henderson. But instead, Zion is filing his paperwork with the NFL and we are trading him for Bryce Young.

235? Given the muscle mass he’s gained, probably unintentionally from gaining 50-100lbs and then having to work out to lose it twice in 3 years, that ship has sailed. I’m not sure it’s physically possible given how jacked the dude is these days when in shape.
