Who could we get? It just doesn’t seem he’ll ever be able to play a meaningful number of games in a season. What could we be looking at as far as compensation?

Next time he strings 20 games together trade him as fast as you can.

OKC would be a team that could afford to roll the dice.

I could see them offering one of Giddey or Jalen Williams. Maybe a pick. That’s about his current trade value.

Or you could get really creative and do something like Zion and Jonas for Maxey and Tobias Harris. Maxey has a lot of upside, but we have to take on last couple years of Tobias deal.

2 years ago. We could’ve traded him straight up for Ant Edwards or Haliburton and picks. That option no longer exists imo.

We’d get good value, not great. And to get a potentially great player back, we’d have to do something weird like take some big negative salary back imo.

The one counter to that is if some front office thinks they could do a better job of keeping him healthy than we do. We may not got 100 cents on the dollar BUT it is quite possible that some big market that is starved for a marquis player could give us a big return. Personally, I don't know if I actually want to trade him. I remember what December was like. But I'd we were too I really do think we'd get a better return than we currently think we would.

Based on my read of his tenure, it seems like Zion is highly emotional and he overeats when he’s frustrated and unable to physically perform and play basketball competitively. Every weight issue with Zion has directly followed an injury. When he’s been healthy this hasn’t been a problem. I know people who are this way, stress eating is a thing and people have different triggers.

If the above is the case, there isn’t much the pelicans can do aside from hire dietician and psychologists. Zion is a grown man, we can’t have a dude with him 24/7. This situation sucks, but we better start expecting him to be out for a while anytime he gets hurt.

That being said, only a complete idiot would trade Zion Williamson. How many players with GOAT potential even exist?

Eventually it would, but even then you won’t get anything of equal value for him when he’s healthy. It will take a desperate team that wants to take a swing to get out the middle of the pack. But right now you couldn’t get anything for him.

you're right... it's so much better keeping him around to play his yearly 25-30 games/year, while also taking up a roster spot

You have to play to even have potential let alone being a GOAT.
Zion was 2 years old when LeBron started in the NBA. The 22 year old is not even close to being as reliable as the old man over the last 4 years. Zion doesn’t “feel it” says it all. Mental. 100% mental and effort.

He’ll only accept a trade if 2 Big Macs come with the deal

Imagine a scenario where we trade him and then he proceeds to stay healthy for the rest of his career.

Do you honestly believe that this is a thing? Can you name a player that had this level of injury his first 3-4 seasons, then had a run of 6-8 seasons with above average health?

An aside question, if everything goes to shite this offseason and we have to or want to move Zion, is it based on his salary for next season (34M)?

some chance pels win a 7 game series. by then zion is playing.
he gets his 25 6.5 3.8 in the 2nd round.

no sooner does the final round end, you finalize the deal for a golden ticket to the wembanyama fiesta. you get a 2 way wing and a couple #1s, one being a top 6 pick 2023 that can become scoot, Miller, the better twin, or frenchie himself.

NOTHING over the last 4 years remotely indicates that is possible.

If other teams know that, then what do you think you'll get for him that would make us a true contender?
