So in this scenario, it’s possible the Lakers don’t make the final 16?

I don't understand. What is the tie breaker for the 9th seed? What if the Pels and Blazers finish 9th, a game behind the Grizz, and have the same record? Do we go back to normal tie breakers?

One would assume.

Strange set up. With all teams having 8 games, Pels, Kings and Wizards play 1 game less than Spurs, Suns and Grizzlies and 2 less than Blazers on the season. You would think they would have tried to equalize that somehow.

By crunching the numbers, the Blazers would have a higher winning % if we were both 1 game back of Memphis. Blazers would have 1 win and 1 loss more than us. You’d think there would be something in place to not frick us there, but we’ll see.

They're going to have to have the draft and free agency in there, too. I don't think December would be doable.

What happens if the Pelicans get a gauntlet in those 8 games, Lakers, Rockets, Bucks, 76ers, etc and after 5 games they’re done. Do they tank at that point?

Memphis still benefits from a season cut short which doesn’t sit well with me.

so basically the Pelicans go from having the easiest schedule in the league remaining, to having to play 8 games against playoff teams to try and get in?

We still don't know what schedule strength will be for each of the remaining 22 teams.

Does Memphis get all of their forwards back from injury?

Portland should get their big men back in time, right?

I think it's dumb that every team is playing 8 games. Portland should be playing 6, Grizzlies and Spurs playing 7, and Pelicans and Kings playing 8, that way everyone ends up with 72 games played.

I don't like the double elimination for the 8 seed. I understand wanting to give them an advantage, but just make it a 3 game series instead of requiring 9 to beat 8 twice back to back.

The plan is for teams to continue their schedule as planned, with the next 8 games. If team is scheduled to play Hawks/Bulls/Pistons, it moves onto the next game on schedule, league sources tell Yahoo Sports

interesting schedule, and looks like we have a good amount of control in this situation playing the Grizz twice.

Grizzlies have:
Portland
Utah
SAS
OKC
Bucks
NOP
NOP
Boston

Portland has:
Grizz
Houston
Dallas
Boston
Philly
Brooklyn
Utah
Grizz

Spurs have:
Denver
Grizz
NOP
Utah
Utah
Denver
Kings
NOP

Kings have:
NOP
Brooklyn
Dallas
Houston
Orlando
NOP
Indiana
SAS

Issue would be SAS has us playing them 2x but that would give us 9. I guess if we already got to 8 then they skip again.

I doubt it. Assuming that we don't catch the Grizzlies for 8th, I think that we'll have to finish a half-game ahead of the Blazers for 9th.

Kind of weird they would not have the teams play an even amount of games.
