So they always want to tear everything down if you aren't a contender. I just don't agree with that. I don't want to tank this year. That's the only way losing that pick matters

I have been anti-tank since Baron Davis, but you don't have to tank to suck.

Nobody here does either, many are too afraid to admit. Simmons is spot on and the franchise should move to Vegas or Seattle.

Oh look, sgt misery here to tell us the situation is hopeless, and the teams these local discussion boards were created for should just move away. Thanks for your input, hopefully tomorrow will bring some bad news to get you out of bed in the morning.

Dumars was a stupid fricking hire. Basically like hiring Ditka. Well past his prime.

I’d say talent wise the jazz are absolutely worse.

Suns are shitty.

Kings are similar to pels. Some mismatched talent that doesn’t fit.

That’s about it though. I think the clippers will fall off some.

There's almost no shooting outside Trey and Poole.

People keep forgetting about Saddiq Bey. That's probably because he missed last season with the ACL injury, but for his career, he's a 35% 3pt shooter on 6.3 attempts per game. He's going to be in the rotation and he's going to get up a lot of 3pt shots.

Who can you say with confidence that we will be better than in the west?

Not better than us:
Utah
SAC
GSW
POR
PHX

LAC
MEM
LAL

Better than us:
OKC
HOU
DEN (close)
MIN (close)

Equals:
DAL
SAS
PELS

Pels are also easily top 5 in total assets/ future assets in the West:

OKC
HOU
SAS
PELS
DAL

MIN
PHX
MEM

Healthy of course...

I love all of the super negative media takes and our sorry arse fans who support it. It’s kinda ignorant though! Im betting on them to “overachieve” as folks are gonna call it. Easy money

According to The Ringer, we have four of the NBA's top 100 players: Zion, Herb, Trey, and Poole. Our fifth starter, Yves Missi, has a good chance to grow and improve in his sophomore season. Our bench is now solid: Jose, Fears, Queen, Bey, and Looney.

It's just about whether people believe that we'll be healthy. People are predicting for us to be bad because we haven't been healthy. Betting on Zion to play 60 games feels like a sucker's bet. But if our core of Zion, Herb, Trey, and Poole each plays 60 games, then we should absolutely be a playoff team. We have 100% of the necessary talent; it's just a question of whether that talent will actually be on the court or not.

I actually thought they were pretty complimentary of the talent on the roster

Just said what we’ve all (well, most of us) been saying - no fit and the west is frickin loaded

Whoever said they have no respect for Weaver/Dumars is spot on, but here’s the thing: nobody in the league or the media does, and up till now, there’s pretty good reason for that opinion.

Hopefully everyone is wrong but us and we get a healthy season out of everybody finally and Willie can get these weird pieces to fit.

How anyone can bet on that as the LIKELY outcome is beyond me, but our organization sure has wagered a lot on it.

This is the thing, the offseason isn't over. There are still moves to be done. Even then, we aren't tanking. We are going to try and win. All of the teams that finished bottom 10 were tanking.

The biggest factor, that can't be accounted for is injuries. There are a handful of teams that are going to get injuries and then shut it down. Take Houston for example. They only have 3 guards in their top 13 players. If/when Van Vleet goes down, they are screwed. Durant is almost 40 and will miss significant time too. If can go to shite really quick for them. You can do this for a ton of teams. So many are top heavy, with limited depth..

None of that addresses how this current Pelicans team is anywhere near the current Denver Nuggets team

We are not. They have the best player in the world on their team, took the champs to 7 games despite injuries of their own last year, and won the damn title two years before that.

How good we are all boils down to Zion.

I'll preface this with admitting that I'm legally retarded, but I really do think that Zion turned a corner last season when he came back from a lengthy injury in the best shape he's been since his 2nd season. I also believe that, when he's engaged and in shape, he's got the talent to drag an otherwise subpar team into the playoffs.

Once he came back in shape last season, the team was still a mess with injuries, and at that point was pretty much guaranteed to miss the playoffs. He still managed to put up ~25/5/6 + 2 stocks per game in 28mp after his midseason return, despite having absolutely no reason to give a shite.

IMO (as long as the injuries to the rest of the team aren't laughably bad again), I really think that Zion is going to play 65+ games and have the best overall season of his career, which will get the Pels into a top 6 seed. If he starts the season out of shape again, or (probably even worse) starts the season in great shape but suffers another major injury, then not much else matters, as he will become another massive albatross contract on our books with Murray.

Despite my confidence in Zion, I was not a fan of trading next year's Pels/Bucks pick. That was our only hope for the future if/when things go to absolute shite this season.

We had no intention of tanking last year, either. I guess at least we will still try to win every game when we're 13th in the West instead of having lottery balls to soothe the losses. At what point is a higher 2nd rounder worth tanking?
