Willie loves his vets. And probably for spacing because Graham has this false traits of being a good perimeter shooter

That's all of it right there. Willie is loyal, to a fault most times, to his vets. He makes the rookies earn it the hard way. Even when the rookie looks better than the vet, Willie continues to trust the vets more. It's hard to figure out, but just who Willie is.

This dude Graham can't hit an open three to save his life.

Right now, I think it’s somewhat defensible to play Graham over Dyson because we are hurting for shooting/offensive creation without BI and Zion

Our current 3rd best offensive creator is Naji. And some games he’s effectively our 2nd best because defensive matchups limit JV’s minutes

Considering it was one of my criticisms earlier in the season was lack of floor balance, got to defend it a bit I think.

My guess is it was for spacing purposes

With CJ resting or Trey, the only other true three threat would be Graham. And we had lineups out there with Jose/Naji/Herb/Nance or JV or Jax. Kinda need someone defenses will respect.

We lost that game when Graham and Jax started the 4th quarter and played halfway through.

It’s absolutely crazy that we subbed Trey and Jose back in for them and started playing better. Who woulda thought….

We have Dyson, Jose, CJ, Naji. We have Val, Nance, and Trey. That’s all of our better options even without BI/ Zion available. AND WE PLAYED GRAHAM AND HAYES THROUGH THE 4th QUARTER.

That’s 7 players without including Herb. That’s an 8 man rotation we could roll with in the 4th. And we play 2 guys not in our top 10 rotation in the 4th.

DD is an elite defender. He doesn’t do anything bad on offense and is a great decision maker. He will also knock down most open shots.

I don’t see how a guy like that doesn’t play 25 min at least every game.

WTF?

He definitely does. Herb became some sort of grizzled vet in Willie’s eyes after one season.

If Dyson and Herb had started camp this year together and had been picked at similar spots in the draft, Dyson would be getting the minutes that herb gets.

He’s a better player than Herb, it’s obvious.

Because lately he's doing absolutely nothing on offense. I mean that in the literal sense. He's not shooting, not taking open shots. He's not facilitating. He's not driving to the rim to either take a shot or make a pass. He's just not doing anything. That alone makes him a large net negative offensively.

I said it yesterday but just to reiterate, he's 19. I have no concerns about him long term, so it's not a huge knock. It's more just a fact, if you will, it's just what is actually happening with him recently.

Had he continued to play like he did earlier in the season, I imagine he'd have earned more minutes.

In the last 17 games, he's averaging 19mpg and only 3.4ppg on 3.4 shots per game.

Objectively we didn’t though…

We started the 4th down by 2 and proceeded to go up. Nets rallied back and went up by 3 after we went ice cold and Nance missed two open shot in two possessions, CJ missed an open 3, Jax missed a 6 footer.

Called timeout, took out Graham and Jax, scored once, to bring it to a 1 point game. Held our own a bit but never regaining the lead and then the Nets dominated in crunch time.

Frankly I just don’t think there was a magic combo in the rotation to beat the hottest team in the league missing two top 20 players. All things considered we fought well and gives me a lot of hope this team can keep around .500 or even better til BI and/or Zion get back

In his last 20 games Graham is shooting 27% from the field and 20% from three. Im all for a small sample size, but 20 games isn’t that. Graham shouldn’t see the court at all.

And I’m ok with that. I wish he would be more aggressive, and believe it will come with time, but if it’s Dyson doing nothing on offense while being elite defensively, or it’s Graham jacking up 3 threes even though he’s been a sub 20% shooter from three on top of playing poor defense, that’s an easy choice for me.

And it should be an easy choice for Willie, but his tendency to adjust late in games also carries over to other areas.

Though I would also argue there are things Dyson does, that don’t show up in the box score offensively, that do positively impact the game. Just makes the decision easier.

Hell, give Kira some run in place of Graham. It can’t be worse.

At a minimum let’s say Dyson is petrified to shoot, he’s still better than graham offensively for two reasons.

He’s not missing everything like graham and he can offensive rebound.

Graham tries but he sucks

Dyson is a rookie. Will be ups and downs. He’s lost out there right now, unless he’s playing on ball D, but he’ll no doubt find his footing again.

With that said, as soon as DG hits the court, if his three doesn’t fall then Willie should sub him out for Dyson pronto.

Amazing how many around here actually think Dyson is even in the same ballpark as Herb...defensively. But...he's gonna eventually learn what he's doin', and will be a major factor in the Pels future success.
