What's the biggest personnel change you expect this offseason?

I'm convinced that Griff will sell Gayle on this being an injury issue just like Allen somehow conned her into.

But even if that's the case, to run this same team back out next year is insanity.

At a minimum Jonas has to be moved right?

Or will we see something bigger like a BI trade?

I'd like at least 1 of CJ/BI moved. Doubt anyone wants CJ.

We also need to move 1-2 of Dyson, Herb, Naji and replace with shooters.

What a completely fricked up roster of non-shooting wings, tiny PGs and slow arse bigs.

Dyson is going nowhere. Herb Naji and Jose will be shopped.

Agree.

Do you think both BI and CJ are back?

Jonas will 100% be moved. No question in my mind.

I think we will also move multiple draft picks, as well as possibly guys like Herb in order to increase shooting.

There has to be changes. But more importantly there needs to be some changes in philosophy.

Griff has been focused on guys with certain attributes: length and Defense, and relying on shooting being taught. He has said this outloud.

We have to get guys that can fricking shoot. We need a microwave or two.

Thought Naji was a FA? Do we still control his rights?

We need shooters. Pelicans should be a shooters wet dream. A good shooter should increase his FG% drastically by coming here.

If the Pels could make 2 moves…(1) add a legit stretch 4 to backup Zion and bolster shooting and the interior D when Zion’s not on the floor, and (2) upgrade one of our defensive specialists into a good 2 way wing, then the Pels could probably run it back and be in solid shape to make a run.

IMO the roster isn’t that far off. The Pels legitimately have had injury issues this season, but the team didn’t have to fall apart if it was built in a more balanced and realistic fashion.

The early season was fun, but it was likely too much to expect our poor shooters to maintain some of the % jumps they were exhibiting and something of a reversion to the mean was inevitable regardless of the injuries.

If the Pels decided to go with a more mobile center that’s understandable, but I think JV has been hobbled and when healthy he is a good value contract, particularly when coupled with Nance as the small ball 5/closer. An upgrade would have to be the right situation or they could easily spend assets to go laterally.

Im also fine with CJ. I don’t think there is a reason to make a change there. He is proven, and may be a bit overpaid, but he can play high level ball when healthy, and isn’t playing terrible even with a jacked up hand this season…and I appreciate that he is trying to lead by playing.

We need a more versatile center first and foremost. Someone like Vucevic who will be a FA would be great, or trade for a player like Mitchell Robinson who has two very reasonably priced years left.

We need shooters and that will come at the expense of Naji or Herb unfortunately. No way we can add a shooter and keep both in the rotation.

Need a solid backup 4.

I expect to see a depth chart like this:

CJ/Jose/Dyson/Kira
New guard/JRichardson/Naji or Herb
BI/Trey
Zion/new 4
New Center/Larry

Would fix a lot of our problems if we can find a center who could shoot and can slot CJ down starting at the 2.

I think you have to look at who Willie does not want to play and players that are playing that need to be resigned/replaced:

JV
Jaxson
Billy
Kira (not getting minutes paired with another short guard which means no minutes)
Graham/Richardson (Bench shooter, and depending on the tax situation after the trade I'd be ok resigning Richardson if it's less than $10)

I think targeting Bridges is pie in the sky thinking, so probably Griff's first choice. But I could see you convincing them to take JV/guys/picks for Claxton and Dorian Finney Smith or Cam Johnson if Brooklyn looks mediocre down the stretch. They can be mediocre with JV and Naji too, but get extra picks out of it to try and trade for someone to pair with Bridges.

Question for the board, it costs a similar package of JV and picks, who do you want, Turner or Claxton?

I do not expect them to even look into CJ/BI trades at this time. Just like the always injured Jrue/AD/Lemonhead/Ryno/Tyreke Pels, they hope to see them healthy enough one day to all play together before blowing it up.

I was a huge JV defender going into this season, but I think his time has passed. Gotta upgrade his spot at minimum.

No reason to trade CJ if we are trying to upgrade our shooing. Even with his numbers being down a bit, he's easily one of our top 3 shooters on the team.

There is no reason to ship off Naji, Jose, or Herb unless you can get a pretty big upgrade in return. Their contracts are too good. Collectively, they cost $5.6M next season.

I see JV being traded and Jaxson being allowed to walk. If you attached Herb or Jose to a JV trade (along with a pick), maybe you can bring something decent back in.

CJ absolutely. I can't imagine listening to offers for B.I. but I can guarantee Pels listen to offers if we can get 75 cents on the dollar and a shooter comes back in a trade.

Turner is just another dude who misses too many games imo. So I guess Claxton.

I still don't think Turner solves as many problems as many think with his rebounding weakness paired with this team's rebounding weakness, but without Zion to paper over other holes, they have to make a change, even if it costs a premium.

Mind you, there's a timeline where Zion doesn't injure his hamstring and JV and CJ play more minutes against 2nd units minimizing their defensive issues and this is a totally different conversation. The underlying problems are still there, but you've been able to minimize them enough to make it not worth paying a premium to fix.

I do think it's funny that the same people complaining about hurt players not getting out there and playing are some of the same people bashing CJ for not playing well...because he's hurt.

CJ is officially a Pel, didn't even take going through 1 full season for him to have a season ruined due to injuries.

CJ was better than probably any of us could have envisioned last season. CJ had a 30 game stretch this season where he was just as good as last year's version but the 1st 15 games or so and now and likely the rest of the year, I would not expect him to do well as long as that brace is still on his shooting hand.

No one is arguing that JVal has been all world defensively this season, no one. People reply back when you say things like, "JVal is a terrible rebounder" which you have done many times this season.

Honestly, I think my mindset is everyone not named BI/Zion is on the table, with an eye toward eliminating excess roster redundancies and balancing the depth chart, depth that fits cohesively when stars go down(we have depth, but the moment one of our big 2 go down it falls apart cause of the roster redundancies).

In terms of realistic targets, I'd look at guys like Bruce Brown, Grant Williams, Naz Reid, Nick Richards, Malik Beasley, Seth Curry, Lonnie Walker, Alec Burks.

I would gladly clear most of our bench out not named Trey/Larry//Dyson to bring a combo of those players in

I'd also make some backroom overtures at Toronto about FVV. It's a risk with his down year, but he's 28, in a situation he is not happy with, and I think he is a more natural fit with what Ziona and Bi do than CJ....If we Put CJ on the table, and want to be realistic.

I still would like to keep Jose. Maybe just minimize his role.

The majority of his rebounds are uncontested and could be had by any other big. He doesn’t get many contested rebounds.

Griff would impress the crap outta me...if he can SOMEHOW trade for Bridges. From this point on, Mikal is only gonna get better while...JMO...BI has pretty much topped out. Funny thing is, we probably have very few here, that would trade BI straight up, for Bridges. (I'd probably EVEN throw in the "local" Jose just for schits & giggles...since Brooklyn might place more value on Jose, than I do)
