Yeah the west is too good and by the time this potential top 5 pick starts making a bigger impact toward wins, Zions probably already one foot out the door

He’s also 5-6 years older. Dyson is currently on pace to have a top ten season all time in steals. I’d be shocked if he’s not replacing Herb this year on the all defensive team….
I really don't care how much older Herb is, Dyson is in his 3rd year and shooting 31% from 3 and 60% from the line you just can't be a effective guard shooting like that. Plus I'm really curious what the Hawks are going to offer Dyson when it comes time to talk about a contract extension.

Not enough hope in the world.

This is the ceiling, so very unlikely, but why can't Trey/Herb become like Tatum/Brown?
Trey's ceiling could be a Brown type in best case scenario but definitely not Tatum.
Sure would have been nice to not wait until year 4 to unleash Trey though, he could be even ahead of where he is now if we did.

You do realize Dyson would still be in college if he followed Herbs track. What was he shooting at Bama his last year? Give me those numbers, against amateurs. There’s a reason he dropped to the 2nd after being the SEC player of the year and SEC defensive player of the year.

Dyson has a ton of upside and it sucks to lose him for a win now move. The NBA unfortunately is more like the lottery than any other sport. You really can’t predict it

And just think if we had kept the nba steals leader and one of the best wing defenders in the league and still only 21….
Redundant with Herb. Can't play both of them.
And it's hindsight bias with Murray's injury, so not analytically sound thinking.

The Murray trade was a massive disaster, especially with his injury
Literal hindsight bias

Dyson is less than Herb on defense and offense right now but could mature into a player that good.
100% possible, but he's going to need that 2nd contract relatively soon and if he takes the step next year, he's going to cost a lot more than Herb will also (and with a likely hard offensive ceiling)
The contract is always the thing the Dyson-stans ignore.

We are potentially adding a top five pick to that core plus hoping Zion pulls his head out of his arse.
Even if Zion pulls his head out of his arse and stays in shape AND Missi progresses AND Herb’s corner 3 comes back, a Zion-Herb-Missi closing 3 man rotation is not tenable particularly in the postseason. There’s just not enough spacing despite Trey.
If we get lucky in the top of the draft, neither Flagg nor Harper are prolific 3 point shooters.
The best path is probably to build around Trey (as #2 or #3) and hopefully a top 3 ‘25 pick. Be bad next year with a good draft class at the top and pray Zion builds trade value. Ramp up Trey’s usage and see what he can become. Get the rookie tons of experience while losing. Hope to hit again in 26 draft.
In ‘27-28, Trey and Z (in unlikely event he’s around) will be 26 entering their prime. Hopefully you have Flagg or Dylan breaking out 3rd year. And you have DJM’s expiring contract plus hopefully picks you’ve accumulated along the way.

That's the problem Dyson is not in college he is racking up NBA years and his extension will be based on potential. Dyson and Herb are in the same mold and Herb is a better player, when the Pels drafted Dyson they thought he could be a lead guard but that's not the case and with us already having Herb he didn't have a place on this team.
It's amazing how underrated Herb still is on the board by some give me Herb and his contact every day over Dyson.

Most teams would be extremely excited to have a young core of Trey, Herb (both on extremely reasonable contracts) and Missi for a rebuild
every one of those guys could be replaced with high picks. And if you’ve blown it up you have high picks. Stop this.
name a single team that is rebuilding that would swap their picks or prospects for those three

Trey would get a lot of those picks from any rebuilding team. You're completely underestimating Trey's value.
Herb and Missi would definitely get a couple each.
And, we still have all of our picks moving forward with some swaps. I know a lot of the picks we got from AD were wasted, but we can't ignore we have all of our picks.

Flagg is the only guy in this draft I would trade Trey for. There other players in the draft with great potential but the draft is such a crap shoot that I'm not going to risk the sure thing we have in Trey on the small chance we draft a player who becomes better than him.

I really like Trey being on the team just like everyone else. He’s smooth, he’s likeable, he’s got skill. But he’s not a difference maker. Not by himself
