Wow! One of the best trainers in the NBA! Has been with the Suns since the Barkley Days... Had a relationship with Griff with his Suns days as assistant gm.. Big win for New Orleans!

Dudley does have a lot of ties to everyone involved from his Phoenix days, but it is nice to see other players in the league talking positively about the team.

Pelicans have a trainer thats widely respected around the league. Raise your hand if you predicted this at any point in the last five years.

This seemed like the longest shot in the dark to be honest.

I mean actually pretty stunned at him coming.

Griffin must be one hell of a salesman

As others have mentioned, Zach Lowe and Kevin Arnovitz said that Phoenix was looking to do a pretty thorough house cleaning. We didn't steal him away as much as it was a good time to ask him to leave.

Look at who is going to be doing the housecleaning. Sarver, Jones, and Bower.

Larry, Moe, and Curly.

Also out of Phoenix: League sources say that the Pelicans have successfully recruited noted Suns athletic trainer Aaron Nelson to make the move to New Orleans

This is a big get

Tears of joy. I cannot believe the Pelicans were able to get this guy from Phoenix regardless of their "housecleaning" situation. Absolutely huge.

I look at it as an opportunity.

If this were a competent front office in Phoenix, I would say we were getting incompetents.

Given the people in power over there, it was probably more along the lines of “slash and burn salaries and/or bring in sycophants.”

Usually medical and athletic trainers don't get moved around

Especially if they're good.

Regardless it’s still a good sign to the rest of the league that we’re taking our restructure seriously

Still, he had to see the writing on the wall. He could have had his choice of jobs around the league. I dont think you can undersell how big this is especially from a perception of us around the league.

Him picking the Pels is certainly a big thing and suggests that Griffin will do exactly what he was hired to do and raise the profile of the team. I wasn't trying to undersell it, but you don't want to oversell it either so people should be aware of what's reportedly happening in Phoenix.

If Phoenix is about to be gutted, we may end up bringing in a lot of their training staff en masse with him.

That medical staff was pretty much THE reason to consider Phoenix for a lot of guys considering how fricked the team is. This just takes them from “western bottom feeder” to “worst team in the league” territory

Great reply. Guy gives some context and is told to STFU

He is dead on accurate. And the bigger context of what he is saying is that the joy shouldn't be in the specific guy we got or whether we truly poached him or not.

The happiness should come from the fact that Griffin has the budget to get whoever he wants. THATS the story.

Having all the money at your disposal doesn’t necessarily mean much if no one signs with you.

The Lakers seem intent on proving that this offseason.

That’s not to say we HAD to get this one specific guy, but getting him means that we are getting notice because respected people in the league are signing on with us.

At the least, it makes anyone else Griffin approaches at least keep an open mind instead of shutting us down without a chance to speak.
