I’m good with Green over a retread. Sounds like a solid dude that has basketball acumen. Not a big time player like Billups or Kidd, but usually the mid tier players are better coaches than the stars in the long run.
Also IDK if you have noticed, but this entire world is out of fricking control, so this article is just par for the course. People have gotten to the point where they are afraid not to virtue signal at any chance they get. Screw actually treating other humans well in normal everyday life. It’s much easier to puff your chest out, pull out your handy faux outrage toolbox, and hit send on your media outlet of choice.

Fletch still coming in hot:

My tweet from last night about Willie Green as Pelicans head coach.
After more calls today, I’d move Green to #1 target for New Orleans.

That might have been accurate, but remember as eyeran so aptly and adorably put it, Vaughn “decided to piss in Griffin’s mouth instead of becoming our head coach”. I don’t think he gave Griff a golden shower, but it is possible he didn’t pull out of the search to save face, but rather because really did want to stay in Brooklyn for personal reasons.

Week before that it was 100% T-spoon and nobody else was even being considered.

Fletcher is as unreliable as they come. He was on the Willie Green stuff early and now that seems to have at least some truth to it.
But my guess is that Fletch got word that Willie was either interviewing or being considered and then when he saw others picking up on the story, he decides to run with “#1 target” on the chance it’s right. He does that literally every time. I think he did it 4-5 times last year and was right on 0 of them.

I could see Willie Green having a compelling story
- Championship experience as an assistant with the Warriors.
- Experienced the playoffs and hyped up crowds in New Orleans. Something Zion hasn't gotten to see yet.
- Experienced the Hornicans before the Benson's poured money into upgrading it's staff and infrastructure and can attest to how committed to winning ownership is.
- Can sell to Zion how quickly things can change for the Pels because of what he's experienced in Phoenix.
Here's an interesting quote I found on him.

And holy hell I didn't realize Jeff Bower is in Phoenix right now too as their VPOBO.

quote:
Yet at the Las Vegas Summer League in 2018, Green was elevated to coach the Warriors’ exhibition squad, working with players like Damian Jones and Jacob Evans. Golden State staff saw much of Steve Kerr, even in Green’s first go-round calling the shots.
“He’s a head coach in our league,” Warriors assistant coach Bruce Fraser told the Mercury News. “He has a great pedigree. He has a really good feel. He has an emotional intelligence. He relates to players and he’s learning from one of the best in our business with Steve. He’s in a great position.”

Oh yeah man. The Suns somehow looked at the late 00's and early 10's Horicans and said we gotta get some of that culture...and I'll be damned if it didn't work

It’s amazing to me that bower is still in the nba.

I distinctly remember us all laughing our asses off when they hired Bower.

I would put all of this in the Willie Green thread but that went to shite with the OP being a blind link. Here's a video of Willie Green talking with other coaches about offensive concepts (Monty's/Suns). LINK
Bullet points from the video:
* Being really good at simple
* Want to play with pace, ball across half court within 4 seconds
* Share the ball - be a top team in assists
* Good to Great - if you have a good shot pass to someone with a great shot
* Paint to Great - Paint touches to kickouts makes the offense thrive
* That's what we drill every day, being really good at simple
Quotes from Kerr on Green. They really spoke highly of Green in Golden State.

“Willie’s going to be a star,” Kerr said. “I think he’s a future head coach. He just has such a great way about him. And he’s got the combination of confidence having played in the league almost 12, 13 years, but the humility of being a role player and having bounced around a little bit and understanding how the league works.
“I’m really, really happy we were able to get him onto this staff after losing Luke. Because I feel like some of the traits Luke had have been replaced by Willie. And that’s not an easy thing to do. Luke’s got big shoes to fill. But Willie’s doing a great job.”

I think I’m good with Lee or Green. I like the idea of a young ascending coach with a young ascending team. These 2 candidates seem to have the right overall makeup as well. I Just wish we would have gone this direction 1-2 years ago.
I can’t remember 2 years ago very well, but Crewz was saying on twitter that Griff was trying to bring in Lue as an assistant under Gentry and maybe transition him to being head coach in a year or two, but that didn’t work out. I wonder had we offered him the HC gig 2 years ago if he would have accepted it or not. When he turned down the Lakers, he seemed like he was looking for something in particular job wise. I’m not 100% sure if he would’ve accepted our HC offer or not, but in hindsight it seems like Lue would have been a very good hire.

A good sign for Brandon Ingram’s future in New Orleans was him attending Game 5 of Clippers-Suns playoffs series with Pelicans GM Trajon Langdon. The Pelicans have several more interviews before hiring a head coach, a source told @TheUndefeated. Ownership hasn’t met a candidate.
Sounds like they had Landgon and BI out to Phoenix to interview with Willie Green to me

Two nuggets in there, BI watching playoff games in person (hope it makes him hungrier), and they still have several interviews left before making a hire.

“Did you see that Brandon? Look at the replay. When you slide in front of the guy with the ball and put your hands up, he’s less likely to make it. That’s called defense.”

4 nuggets. He attended with the GM. I know they have the Duke connection, but still that's not something you see very often. Also, they attended the same game where Willie Green was coaching.
