This is New Orleans, not LA, or NY, or some other huge market

Like the title said, this isn't LA or NY, this is New Orleans. I don't want to sit here and say we will never attract a LeBron or AD type because crazy shite happens, but the smart bet is that New Orleans never attracts that type of player. Regardless of if Zion develops or not.
And for that very reason, when you have a chance to draft a potential stud, like a Garland, or a Culver, or even a Coby White, you take that guy. If we were in LA maybe I would feel differently because you CAN attract that kind of guy, but you aren't doing it here.
If you trade out of your spot, you do so because you're landing another stud. Maybe it's a potential All-NBA guy, or a guy that's already established. But you surely don't trade out that spot for Robert Covington and a pick towards the end of the lottery.
You take the stud and hope he develops, because that is far and away the most likely scenario of you landing an All-NBA caliber player. If he doesn't develop, then oh well at least you tried.

Well said and that’s why Turner is the only realistic and great option in a trade for us here. Otherwise draft garland. I’m fine with one of the two.

Plus pick 4 worked out well for us before.

Zion is a stud.
History tells us between Garland/Culver/White, only 1 of them will be worth a shite.
If Garland was a stud, he'd be in the discussion as the #2 pick, or even the #3 pick, yet he isn't.

Agreed. Teams like the Pels have to build through the draft. Good chance a superstar is at 4 whether its Garland, Ja, RJ, or whomever.

Or maybe this draft is better than people care to admit or realize?
I'm not saying Garland is a sure thing, but he definitely has the potential to be an All-NBA guy. A lot more than someone you'd get at 10 or 11.

Yeah I'm pretty settled in on the stay at 4 play.
Who knows what any of the future picks end up as? You know you're picking top 4 now. Set up a running mate for Zion off the bat.

Agreed. It's set up perfectly as well. It's not like you have some guy at #4 that's a bad fit with Zion, or a similar player to Lonzo or Ingram. It sets up perfectly for you to take a guy with potential that also fits very well with your current roster.
It should be a no brainer.

I agree. I say we draft BPA at #4 and see what 2-3 pieces we want to try and keep at the end of the season.
We will know by the end of the season where we are at with certain guys. I’m not afraid at all of having to many guards or too many wings. We will have some decisions to make at the end of this season anyway, so I wouldn’t mind seeing taking some chances to see what hits.
Now if we have a chance at a guy like Myles turner for #4, I don’t think that is a bad move either. However it’s not like we are currently one piece away from being a contender, our guys will need time to gel and develop either way.
I actually trust the FO to make the right move, as they appear to be very patient to make sure they get the right deal. It really just depends who is there at #4

Yall are going to be really disappointed.
This pick is getting traded.

I honestly think it depends on who is there.
I’d agree with you but the New York Knicks are picking in front of us and liable to do something that is less than well thought out.

It’s just a perception problem in the NBA. It can be fixed. Will it is another question, but it can IMO.
I think the recent failures of the Knicks and Lakers has created a media echo chamber consisting almost entirely of Knicks and Lakers fans who have started trashing smaller markets and pushing the narrative that no big-name players want to play in those cities.
It has worked to a degree. Success will go a long way toward changing it.
Zion is going to get endorsement deals no matter where he plays, and other players seeing his marketability despite playing in New Orleans will help change the perception.
If and when the two major teams from the two major media markets ever get good again, the writers and talking heads will relax with their incessant promotion of the anti-small market narratives.
There’s a lot of groupthink among players. Having a leader like Zion working to change the narrative will help shift the perception.
The fact that AD is a beta and a follower through-and-through only served to reinforce the problem.
Notice the Saints don’t have these issues. Same city, same ownership, totally different perception.
To think that the anti-small market narrative is factual and infallible is shortsighted IMO. It’s total BS. It needs to be called out as such.

My thoughts as well.
Garland isn't can't miss, but he has all-star upside. There is no reason to dump that for a Robert Covington.

yeah, i'm thinking that it is too... ATL for 8 and 10, etc...

quote:agreed unless a team like the bulls or suns give us their first and a future pick with very little protections. Unlikely to happen tho but who knows. Turner deal is #1.
