Shamit, who has definitely been plugged in in the past, is pretty adamant that the Pelicans wouldn't trade for Trae.

If we did that, in 24-25, we’d owe $162m and be $9m under the tax line with only 10 rostered players, and that’s with just picking up everyone’s team options including Trey. Essentially any kind of extension for Trey puts us well into the tax.
Any extension for Trey doesn’t kick in until the 25-26 season, so his extension is no worry for next season. If we were to do the BI, Nance, Dyson for Trae and Allen we would have $159,862,130 in committed salary to 9 players. The tax line is 172 million, so thats 12 million to play with. The taxpayer MLE is ~5 million so we can use that to fill the 10th spot and have 7 million left. Sign Ryan and Karlo to 11 and 12th spot, that leaves around 3.5 million. Three more minimum deals to get to 15 only puts us around 2.5 million over the tax line, but realistically if we wanted to fill the 10-15 roster spots with all minimum deals we could still stay under the tax, but either way we would not come close to entering the second apron this season.

25-26, we’d owe $160 million to only 8 rostered players and still have to sign Trey.
25-26 gets a little more tricky, but still not bad.
Trae, Zion, CJ, Trey, Allen, Herb, Hawk would be the only 7 guys under committed money. The total for those would be $154,791,310. Add Trey using Jaden McDaniels contract as a baseline and we would be at $179,184,413 for 8 players.
Based on the recent TV deal, the cap will grow at 10% for the foreseeable future, so the 25-26 cap number would be $155,100,000 with the tax line at $189,200,000, so that leaves 20 million of breathing room under the 2nd apron to fill out the final 7 spots, which can be done using minimums and the TPMLE.
So absolutely none of the new penalties would hurt us in any way, as long as we stay below that second apron, and that’s very easily doable.

I think you're being to optimistic with Claxton at $17 million, but I kind of like this roster.
Agreed, I think Claxton will get and cost a little more, but it’s realistic enough. I would still worry about the defensive rebounding and with
Zion/Isaac
Claxton/Larry
We’d still have zero shooting from the 4/5 positions. If Vinson could work some magic on either Issac or Claxton, it would go a long way to balancing the roster.
I’d also rather just let Naji go and use those minutes and $ for Dyson and Hawk

Griff's choices might be more limited than he likes. I have a lot of reservations about Garland besides Klutch, but Klutch rattling the saber in Cleveland makes me think Garland has equal headache potential to Trae.
In the end it might come down to who Atlanta is more interested in trading, Trae or Murray.

They couldn’t get any significant assets for Murray at the deadline.
Trae may, though.

It’s going to take Zion telling Griff he wants to play with Trae for Griff to go after him, or Trae saying he wants to come play with Zion.
Only way it happens IMO

I’m looking at Spotrac and your numbers at adding up the same. What are you using?

Numbers off Spotrac and BBReference
Our only committed salary for next season is Zion, CJ, BI, Nance, Herb, Trey, Hawk, Dyson, Jose and CJ.
Ryan is non guaranteed and JRE has an option that we probably won’t pick up. That could be the discrepancy in our numbers because Spotrac and BBReference line up perfectly save for $1 on Trey’s deal

He gets info from coaches, but I think it's probably more vibes and reading between the lines than true leaks. Like I doubt Langdon ever told him that he didn't like BI, but I also believe Shamit is probably on solid ground when he says Langdon to Detroit makes BI to Detroit less likely.

I'm just wondering because I used to work with him, and he essentially does the basketball stuff as a hobby, unless something has changed recently.

why, b/c Griff doesn't think he can be a part of the "family" he's building?

I put this in another thread:
1A. Donovan Mitchell
1B. Trae Young
2A. Murray/ Garland
1A. Allen
1B.
2A. Okongwu
1. Trae is looking more realistic than Mitchell
2. We do NOT send out Hawk or Dyson for Trae
3. We ONLY send out Dyson to acquire Allen because it is an overall net positive defensively/ scheme
4. The people crying "CJ/ Trae" backcourt while adding Dyson (2nd best defender) to the trade are retarded.
5. Adding Hawk or Dyson to acquire Okongwu is NOT worth it
6. No Hawk/ Dyson for Trae and they shouldn't get (3) 1sts unless its to move Okongwu to a third team to send back a better C to us.

Realistically:
Hawks: BI + Nance + (2) 1st
Cavs: Okongwu + Lidell + (1) 1st or Dyson (if dealbreaker)
Pels: Trae + Allen
Hawks: BI + Nance + (2) 1st
Cavs: Okongwu + Lidell + (1) 1st or Dyson (if dealbreaker)
Pels: Trae + Allen

I don't think we could actually do that from a legality standpoint unfortunately but maybe there's ways around that.
This would be the easiest solution. And (3) 1st + Dyson or (4) 1st isn't make or break in the grand scheme of things.

Just curious who do you actually believe is plugged in?
Because it seems like you don’t trust many of the credentialed pelicans media members. And please don’t say Woj or Shams.

IMO 1B potential centers are:
Nic Claxton
Isaiah Hartenstein
