Taking on $40m of contract you don’t necessarily want for a guy who is a backup to you seems very stupid.
If they don't see good value in him then they wouldn't make a deal for him, obviously. But if they did, the contract isn't bad. $22.7M this year then only partially guaranteed for next season. I don't think that's a ton of money in today's NBA, it's the going rate for quality players.
The WS calculation says he's worth about $22M a year, so I don't think he's necessarily overpaid. Like I said to start, it's all about if a team see's the value in him. Some may, and some won't. Really no telling. He's still a good player.

He's a solid player and could be a good vet for their team. Look at what an impact CJ made for us, even disregarding his on court play.

Problem for them is that they have a ton of money in Garland, they already re-signed Rubio and another point, and Conley isn’t suited to playing the two.
They wouldn’t want Conley at that price, meaning that they would likely value Utah’s other players or some of their treasure trove of picks instead.

Forgot about the Rubio signing, doesn't make sense for them to want Conley too, you're right.

Yep, that was pretty much my thought. I don't know how he really exists with Garland, but Rubio wouldn't factor into that decision for me at all. He's an MLE guy, their Temple. He just plays more, though I'm not entirely sure that's even deserved.
I suppose that's sort of the issue with Garland, he's kind of hard to coexist with. He's so good offensively but he's not great defensively and his size kind of makes him even worse on that end, through no fault of his own. Though having Mobley, Allen, and Okoro definitely helps.
Having Conley defend at the point of attack would do good things for that team, but I have no idea how you match he and Garland. But only for a year or two, it may not be that terrible of a solution to have him come in and be their CJ, as you said.

Conley isnt a solid player at this point. He’s closer to a net negative than net positive
After further looking at his stats, he actually didnt have a bad year on the surface. Just feel like every time I watched the Jazz play, I expected more from him, and he never delivered

If I were him, I’d probably be angling for a short term deal that expires when he’s had more chance to prove he’s back from injury, and the Salary cap bumps up, and more teams can actually pay him.
He was probably looking at $18-$25 pre injury. I bet it’s more in the $10-$15M range now.

Curious to see what contract Sexton gets.

I really thought Sexton and Fournier would be heading to Dallas. They would fit alongside Doncic really nicely and Dallas has pieces to make those moves (both are sort of reclamation projects)..

The Jazz and Knicks have started discussions on a Donovan Mitchell trade, sources tell me and @Tjonesonthenba. New York has Utah’s focus currently, among interested teams.

Going to have to be a pick rich and prospect heavy haul, bc I think RJ is considered untouchable for the Knicks.

If I’m Utah I take a gamble on Randle coming back to form. Give me Randle, Reddish, Quickley and 6 of those 1sts.

RJ was not very good last season, 20 points and all. 40% from the field. And he has not yet been extended. I will be real curious how this turns out, but I highly doubt he’s truly untouchable. I bet he wants close to the max and that would be a terrible contract.
But if I’m the Jazz, I want every unprotected Knicks pick and swap I can get. Nothing beats those pieces IMO.

Going to be hard to bottom out and tank with that group. A core of Conley, Randle, Bogdanovic and Clarkson is a tough game for lots of teams. I'm not saying playoffs but they aren't a bottom 5 team with that group unless they sit players..

Conley is not what he used to be.
On top of that, the Jazz have been shopping him and Bojan, so I wouldn’t count on both being there this season if they get picks and expirings for them.

yep.
have to remember that if Utah is trading Gobert and Mitchell, then they don't want to be good this year, which means they are going to find someone to take Clarkson as well, and they don't want to get back a good veteran like Randle, they want guys that will help them lose, like Jaxson Hayes and Devonte Graham.
I would imagine you're going to see a DMitch trade to NYK or Miami soon. I hope we are part of that trade somehow and we can swap DG for Clarkson.
I think that's a big move for us, getting Clarkson, b/c he is someone that can truly anchor a 2nd unit offensively. I don't see how we wouldn't win 50+ games if we made that move, barring major injuries.

I think they have something like 8 or 9 picks that they can trade, if I'm Utah I'm asking for them all

The three new picks and Dallas pick are all heavily protected. I would take them, but give me Knicks picks all day.

Yeah, I would definitely prioritize the Knicks picks, but I'd take the other ones too
