In search for a replacement, Pelicans are expected to circle back among some candidates from a year ago, including assistants Jacque Vaughn and Ime Udoka (Brooklyn), Charles Lee (Milwaukee) and Jason Kidd (Lakers), sources tell ESPN.

Jesus Christ. When Jason Kidd is looking favorable, you need to make a new list.

Nets assistants seem like a dumb idea, how much good could they actually be doing with that roster of established superstars? Also Vaughn has been an HC before and it wasn't pretty.

Admittedly, I don't know much about Charles Lee

I am seeing some people say that Gayle is fine paying to get rid of SVG because she personally disliked him.

That still leaves a ton of pressure on Griffin to make the right hire this time.

Think about everything you know about Griffin and you’ll find the answer

It’s a shock if it’s not Weatherspoon. Griffin knows how to play the media and he’d have a job for life at ESPN

He'll definitely get the short-term buzz and knob slobbing.

But...

The media will NOT blame her for anything that goes wrong. So there will need to be a different scapegoat.

It's not gonna be Zion. Maybe Ingram. More likely Griff.

So you wouldn't take Pop or Kerr as the coach?

Well it's year 3 and it's been a clusterfrick since he got here and has not delivered what he promised. The pressure is there regardless.

I’m struggling to identify a griffin decision (zion was not a decision) that has worked out better than the available alternatives have elsewhere

The jury is still out on Hayes and NAW….that’s still probably one of the better decisions. And everyone can say bringing in Vets like JJ and Favors was a bad decision, but moving Solomon while picking up two young players with good potential and future picks was the right thing to do.

I would even say Favors and JJ played fairly well last year before the Covid outbreak.

The fact that he didn't get a head coaching job, after doing what most say was a good job in Brooklyn, should tell you everything you need to know, probably some serious baggage that hasn't been made public.

I think KOC's tweet begs the question:

Are Vinson and TSpoon actually serious candidates...or are they saying they are serious candidates in order to placate two assistants they would like to keep?

That's true so they'll turn on Griff for not providing enough for her to succeed. I don't see them blaming zion.

Add Jacque Vaughn to the list of candidates for the Pelicans' vacant coach job, alongside Teresa Weatherspoon and Charles Lee.

Jacque Vaughn. Seriously. WTF is Griffin doing.

Griffin might as well keep his bag packed if this happens. I just don't see those two moving the needle.

Hopefully the latter. Absolute best case scenario is we keep Vinson, promote Spoon to lead assistant and hire Charles Lee.

There are too many worst case scenarios to even name them all

doesn’t really matter who’s coach. We’re just a developmental team for the glamour market teams to harvest our developed stars from every 4-6 years.

Baron gone
CP3 gone
AD gone
You know who’s gone next

Sam Cassell, Jamahl Mosley, Calipari and Chauncey would all be guys I would want to talk to about the job. I'd also be interested in talking to Hardy and Hammond from SAS.

If we go with an assistant and we don't pick Vinson, we are even dumber that I thought. He's been our most valuable assistant coach over the last several seasons

Right, which is why it's a risky hire.

But then again, what's he got to lose? If his next hire fails, he'd done anyway.

It comes down to this:

- Does he think she's the best and can save his job?

- Does he think she has as good a shot as anyone because he knows he sucks picking coaches and this will at least get him a lifetime gig on ESPN?
