People saying we gave up a top-5 pick next year are the same ones who thought we’d have a top-5 pick this year.

but I've seen enough from Queen to at least feel like that wasn't a bad pick.
Where? SL is not always indicative of success or failure, but since you are saying you have seen enough, it certainly was not in the SL. He looks like he has a long way to go and the injury will not help that get off to a quick start this year.

So, what deal would have worked then? How are you structuring the protections? If it doesn't convey next year, when would the exchange be completed?

You don't know that, you made that up.

Especially if Queen becomes a good-great starter level player.
He's a low effort player, the 10th best player on the court on both sides of the ball if he doesn't have the ball in his hands, good luck with thinking he'll become a "great" starter.

Its gonna be a 5-7 year rebuild AFTER Dumars is fired
we’re in the midst of year 23 of the rebuild. It is what this franchise is at this point.

They will be no rebuild, just perpetual mediocrity at best and awful at worst. Sell the team.

Unfortunately it’s the same conclusion regardless of the circumstance.

This is the worst argument. Why should any team ever tank in that case? If they didn't win this year, they'll never win, ever.

History says Zion likely misses a huge chunk of the season and without Zion, we are a bottom three roster. Not like we have elite coaching staff to offset that.

We need a new cornerstone to build around and teams dont get the chance to draft them very often. If this year is one of our best chances to get one and we traded it away for Derick Queen, I think we'll all be pretty pissed off.

The fact that there were no protections kind of answers that question.

Can we move on now?!?! The deal is done and we have Queen now. Let’s hope the Pelicans goto the playoffs and Queen becomes a superstar.

There's no defending the trade.

People who do are the same people who think that any aggressive move - even if it's assinine - is better than patience.

I watched Queen's highlights. I liked a lot of what he does. But in no way is he a generational talent and there are huge concerns and red flags with him.

When you are a bad team, you simply can't make that trade.

I doubt Dumars made the trade with the thought it would be a high pick. Until the pick is sent out we won’t know how the trade turned out.

Agreed and Queen is already hurt and out of shape. Horrible trade then that will age worse when the Hawks draft top 3 next year.

I'm sure he doesn't want it to be a high draft pick, but if he doesn't think there's atleast a high probability of the pick being a very high pick, then he is a fool. There are too many glaring weaknesses and our division and conference are too strong.

There are way too many red flags with this front office to give them the benefit of the doubt.

1. Dumars hasn’t been relevant in 20 years
2. Weaver seems to just pick guys he knows
3. The entire league thought it was a bad hire and a worst trade. So we have to hope that Dumars is smarter than basically every other basketball mind on earth.

The risk was just not worth the reward. You can say they got the guy they wanted. Great. That means you have faith they can actually pick talent. I have my doubts.

The fact that Queen has fitness and maturity issues make the risk that much higher. Just too much to gamble on a guy that may flame out.

You do not understand how odds and probabilities work. You keep making these grand statements that do not logically make sense. For us to have a "high probability" of a high pick, we have to finish in the bottom 3. We just had a horrific year where we intentionally tanked half the season, and we finished 4th worst. Are we worse than last year? Are we going to have more injuries? Are we going to tank? If you are answering no, then what the F are you talking about?

Talent wise they may be worse.
