Why is everyone so quick to move Hayes?

Bc they still haven’t learned. Him and Nance will be really fun bench big men.

If anyone needs to roll it’s Graham to make room for Kira minutes.

He averaged 61/35/76 and he's only just turned 22. He's progressively gotten better and he's still freakishly athletic.

Why sell when his value is so low?

What do we do if he has another marginal improvement next year? He'll want $20M/year and we can't afford that.

He'll be entering RFA and teams know we won't/can't match (like with Lonzo). That's a best case scenario.

He may not really get much run next year if Zion is healthy b/c we also have Nance. His value could plummet.

The light comes on for different players at different times. People here have already written off Jax and Kira.

Are you willing to pay him $15-20M/year over 3-4 years to hope the light comes on?

I like Hayes but the CJ trade made Hayes too expensive. He has to be a legit 18/8 guy who can shoot 3s and play great D to be worth it for us, and does anyone expect that next year? I mean it would be awesome, but it's highly unlikely.

There was no reason to move down that draft. And really depending on who is there when we pick this year, absolutely no reason to drop 4 spots this draft. I was right the last time I said it was a mistake and we should have taken Garland.

I wanted Garland in that draft too, but in this draft if it’s the choice of Daniels at 8 or Sochan and an asset at 12, give me option 2 all day.

I don't get why people are so confident Sochan will be there at 12

I’m not 100% convinced of it, but one of:

Sochan
Griffin
Duren
Davis

Will be there

I agree

Which is why if you believe in him, why risk it?

To me moving back only makes sense if there are like 2-3 players like last year that we felt could have the same impact.

I mean moving back makes sense if we get a guy like Lou Dort in exchange, but yeah, otherwise...not worth the risk if we really like Sochan.

I mean if we got Dort and ended up with Johnny Davis I'd do backflips, though.

*ETA: or Duren/Williams/Griffin

Didn't we move back last year and it work out?

That’s cool in theory, but what do you do if he’s gone, which is very likely. Nothing is promised.

Was just listening to a podcast with a former GM and he mentioned teams screwing themselves by trading back for guys that don't end up being there.

I agree, I don't get why people are assuming Sochan will be there at 12.

For all we know, this is why we ended up with Hayes in the first place. Griffin traded the 4th pick hours before the draft even started.

It was absolutely necessary to get off the horrible Adams debacle. An upgrade to our starting 5 isn’t necessary by trading down this year. Need to draft the best available now.

He's 12 or lower in most mocks, but 100% of mocks are garbage after the first few picks every single year.

If you trade down yet again, knowing that type of move historically never works out well for the team trading down in the draft, then maybe you shouldn’t have the job of managing the roster.

What is a win now type move?

CJ, BI, Herb, and Zion have to be 100% locked in as starters. I can’t imagine bringing someone in that makes sense to displace one of them from heavy starter minutes.

The only starter type move I could see is a chang in philosophy away from JV

Also someone like Dort was a starter and is due for a contract. Is he really going to want a bench role.

Guys like Alvaraedo, Murphy, and Nance will be bought into the idea of a rotation guy. I think we need to keep stacking young cheap talent that will be cool with a rotation spot in the near term. This is an opportunity to get a more for sure thing instead of the gamble of later picks that playoff teams are stuck with.

We need to take our guy at 8.

Is Herb considered a starter or a 6th man?

He is definitely a closer for us as a lockdown defender but he isn’t necessarily a starter, especially depending on who we would bring in at the 1 or 2.

CJ can play the point if we have a big 2 or he can play the 2 if we have a point who is big enough to guard guys he can’t defend well.

And that still allows Herb to be one of the first guys off the bench as well as our defensive anchor.

IMO, Herb has to be a starter. He’s the only starter that is a plus defender. We need more defender minutes, not fewer. I would replace Jonas before Herb in the starting lineup (not that I think that is going to happen either).

I would take this as a bad signals analysis rather than hard evidence that the Pels are looking for Win Now trades. It probably means OKC is offering to bundle their worst picks to move up and teams start asking them about players like Dort instead because the picks suck. That gets translated to the Pels aren't looking for more picks so they are looking to "win now".
