So is tanking the way to go now?

Gotta imagine "evaluated in 2 weeks" for the 3rd time basically means Zion is done for the season. And with the Lakers passing us up in the standings, worst case scenario seems like making the play-in, maybe making it to the first round before losing and then drafting in the mid-teens. That's the NBA purgatory every team should avoid.

Not saying we should expect to get Wenbanyama at this point, or even a top 5 pick, but shouldn't we be trying to get the best lottery odds possible now.

Not to mention, let CJ get his thumb surgery now and a head start on recovery so it doesn't bleed into next season.

I said in another thread, shutting down Zion and CJ is what I'd want at this point.

But there are financial incentives to compete and make the postseason so we realistically can't expect the front office/ownership to do that.

Who is the best rim protector in this class?

Are there any Walker Kessler types in this class?

Screw tanking and Zion! Let’s win again without him. Put the Lakers in the lottery and take their pick.

probably Lively from Duke but I doubt we’d go for him. He’s probably at best very late lottery. Most mocks currently have him late 1st

Not including the obvious in Wemby

Yes. If Zion plays 29 games in two seasons and all you have to show for it is a Dyson Daniels level talent, you screwed up a solid tank window.

Like Zion we are done for the season. Tank and give the keys to the remaining games to Kira and Dyson.

NBA’s best interest would be to rig the lottery like they always do and give the Pels or Lakers the 1st overall pick, make Zion get the stomach staple surgery and then force the Pels to get a real training staff.

I take it all back!

If there has been a more frustrating experience these last 4 years than Zion, it’s watching these moments from Jaxson Hayes.

Another thing as fans we don't factor is a team in 10th place today that you give up on a season for isn't exactly a good way to build goodwill with your players.

rest the injured.
the others do their best.

tricky since cj just had one of his "ceiling" games.
is he ok now?

certainly ingram sits out a couple.

they didn't extend him.

I'm glad he's going to be a ufa. he was a mistake.
the 2 am uproar at the beach ended him for me.

i wanted the oft injured Clarke at 8 (went 17), who can actually play when healthy.
i didn't know he had a chronic thigh injury in college. even factoring in availability id rather have clarke. he already does what people hoped hayes could grow into. runs the floor. plays hard on defense.
powerful inside.

was averaging 10 and 5 off the bench and a few starts for injured starters.

energizer bunny.

Achilles. out the rest of the season .

I'm probably just being stupid and letting them suck me in again, but looking at the schedule, 3 more straight home games and then 4 straight games against active tankers, 2 of those at home, last night being the start of an 8 game winning streak doesn't sound crazy. Unlikely sure, but not crazy.

The Pels are only 2 games back of the 5th seed. This must be what being in the Eastern Conference has felt like the past few decades.

I guess you play out the next 7. If you lose more than 1 of the next 3...maybe you rest some guys in the Rockets, Spurs, Hornets stretch and then see where you are at.

We are 100% dumb for being sucked in, but that's what we do as sports fans.

I said in another thread, BI or no BI, we should go 5-2 over our next 7, and there's no excuse not to.

We should take 2 of the next 3 with LAL/OKC/POR then we should take no worse than 3 of 4 of HOU/HOU/SAS/CHA.

A fair point, but this was also the main argument against tanking last season when we were showing some life at the bottom of the standing with no Zion in sight. The argument becomes less persuasive the more it has to be repeated.
