It never made sense last year. For whatever reason people on here still seemed to think that Kira was going to be a player.
You don't typically like losing salary when OTC in the NBA. It limits your trade options. You can always ditch salary with the gentleman's agreements and worthless 2nd rounders, if necessary.
If we were elite, Kira and JV were going to be a potential addition to strengthen our title run. We're not, so being a tax team doesn't make sense this year (To avoid repeater status when we are potentially elite)

I also remember Jaxson Hayes starting at the 4 the entire Suns playoff series and had slightly more effect on the game than the courtside nacho guy.

This WHOLE BOARD. For forever. Long after Jose had proved himself, people here kept insisting that he was too small.

Im not insulting Naji- I just think our roster is too deep for him personally.
Of the 470+ players with an NBA contract this year, Naji is the 417th highest paid. There is no reason to trade Naji, he is on way too good of a contract for what you're getting out of him. I mean he basically makes the same money as EJ Liddell.

I don't think he's enough of a difference make to feel a need to keep him around before he leaves us in the offseason. And I say that as what I feel is a 99th percentile biggest Naji supporter on this board lol.

not that i'm proud about being right, but i said it from early on in his rookie year that his cieling was Darren Collison if he could learn to shoot at an elite level, and he likely was heading towards being a bust.
It really sucks that he had the injury he did b/c he was starting to play well, but it was always going to be a challenge for him. He's too small and doens't play with enough intensity or smarts to make up for being small, and while he is extremely fast he really isnt' that atletic. You're not goign to see him throw it down like Fox or Morant. He can't get his own shot off and at no point did he show he could be a PG and run an offense. The fact that they used him from the get go as an off the ball guy was very telling. No one needs a 6' guard who isn't a good shooter that can't create for himself or others and is a bad individual defender.
I don't like playing what if when it comes to the NBA draft, but A LOT of people liked Tyrese Maxey, and many wanted us to get back in late in the draft to get Bane.
I wish Kira the best of luck. Toronto has had their eyes on him for 2 years now so hopefully they can help him find his niche in the NBA.

LOL. Jaxson and Kira talk brings to mind that, despite all the credit given to Pels front office for roster construction, the following math applies:
Jaxson Hayes: 8th overall pick/not resigned or extended
Nickell Alexander Walker: 17th overall pick/trade filler
Kira Lewis, Jr.: 13th overall pick/cost 2nd round pick to trade
Devonte Graham: cost 15th overall pick to get/cost four 2nd round picks to trade
So those four players cost us 4 1st rounders (all in top 17) and 5 second rounders. That's a lot of opportunity costs in just five years and that's before we get into Griff's obsession with Dino-centers like Adams and Val...

which is why we dont' need all these future draft picks either. Use them to get a proven young center, Walker Kessler.

Or we could have drafted Kessler when we drafted Dyson. I like that plan much better.

You can say that now. But no one during that time had Kessler over Dyson. Dyson isn’t even a bust.

And despite all of that. The Pels have drafted as good or better than anybody in basketball over that time frame. For some reason people are under the assumption that drafting is easy and that there are teams out there that just hit every draft. Nobody does. Griff has done a very good job and that's not counting getting the max value out of the Lakers and Bucks trade.

They don't start him anymore. He's played 20 mpg this month, down from 25 the previous 3 months.
Lauri is their real C.
You're right they don't need picks, but what they would likely want is an all-star player to come over, and maybe we can get involved as a 3rd team.
The Jazz would love to get Tyler Herro, and Miami's been wanting to move him.

Half this board was clamoring for a big, which we needed, and not a guard, which we didn't need. Granted most folks here were discussing Duren and Williams, but I'm sure Kessler was on the Pels board.
Dyson is a great defender, and at least gets regular minutes(unlike Kira), but not taking a big in that draft makes our path harder every day.
ETA: Folks were also talking about Sochan.

well if our dumbass GM wouldn't have given a 1st round pick away just to sign a FA, then we would have had the 15th pick too, which just so happened to be Mark Williams.

But your point is valid. A business decision. An equal weighting of talent, contribution versus value.
Naji will be gone, just it won't be because of his effort and affect on this team, i.e. like Kira was paid way too much and did not offer any basketball skills.

I get trading Naji just to get any type of value before he leaves this offseason. Reason being, he doesn't move the needle enough to where losing him at the deadline is a big blow to the team.
I wouldn't say the same for Val because he's more of a difference maker. I wouldn't trade him solely just to try and avoid getting nothing in return before he becomes a free agent. Losing him is a big blow, and we'd likely see more Zeller rotation minutes than we want.
