@ShamsCharania

New Orleans Pelicans No. 1 overall pick Zion Williamson has withdrawn from USA Basketball's Select Team for FIBA World Cup training, Team USA director Jerry Colangelo told @TheAthleticNBA @Stadium.

Shams Charania - @ShamsCharania: Williamson and the Pelicans are focused on having the top pick fully integrated into the franchise and its new additions this offseason -- as quickly as possible. USA has available pool of names to choose from even as players withdraw.

It’s an epidemic. No one wants to play. Pop is going to have his work cut out for him..

I actually care less about the decisions Zion and the Pels are making and more about the fact that they seem to be making all of them TOGETHER.

I don't want him anywhere around team USA...that shite led to all the team up bullshite that LeBron started with the Heat.

What kind of workout routine is Nelson setting up that a few weeks of competitive basketball would be considered a disruption?

About to get our boy in shape rather than have him blow a wheel out playing for team USA*

No time for Team USA when he has all these excellent restaurants to try in new Orleans, frick a weight problem. I'm joking of course, i'm glad he is staying away from Team USA and getting fully integrated with the Pels.

Weight won’t be a problem once the season starts. Calories are burned!

Yep, those unbreakable Dream Team bonds from 2012 re-surfaced again this offseason multiple times, with the most notable being the reunion of LeBron and his little buddy, AD.

I'd much rather Zion bond with his Pelican brothers & learn Gentry's system while he gets in mid-season form.

And with so many pros on the FIBA team, Zion wouldn't get that many minutes anyway, just like starry-eyed AD had to sit.

This is not an Olympic year. They are playing in China. Not many big names if any will travel and go through the rigors of playing basketball for a team USA that is not even an Olympic year.

The fact is that even with lesser talent playing on Team USA that they will still be the favorites to win.

No big deal that Zion refused. Most have.

The issue with the FIBA World
Cup is that the Olympics are already a huge ticket and there isn’t competition unless we send our C team

great experience for him, but he will get it again in the future, the right move for Zion.

Yep. Beal dropped out today. Harden, Gordon, AD, and McCollum were already out and that’s on top of the guys who never had their name in to begin with. I think there will be more withdrawals to come too.

Kuzma has to be the most overrated player in the league right now.

He's a 7th or 8th man living off the hype of outplaying his draft position and doing it in LA on a dysfunctional team.

And the dude has a spot over any of those in consideration? Come on lol

He didn’t drop out, but he’s recovering from surgery and unlikely to play.
