Not agreeing with hire. He did get Ben Wallace (trade) and Rip Hamilton (trade). Big moves at the time. He traded 2 fan favorites (Grant Hill & Jerry Stackhouse). Granted 20+ years ago.

After listening to various takes on this, both local and national…

This is so insane. It makes no sense at all. Just a lazy, pathetic franchise.

I’d rather hire some college unknown coach because at least we are trying. Why the frick would you go after a re-tread with zero success?

I’m holding out hope the Pels leaked the Dumars news to see what the reception would be.

They didn’t. If anyone leaked it it’s Dumars who has a history of moves like that.

But it’s probably out because it’s true.

They hired Griffin “outside the family” and it failed. So they are over correcting and hiring someone they know well and are comfortable with.

They don’t care about winning that much so they just want a friend of their’s to come in and tread some water.

Agreed. Hell I’d rather them bring back Dell Demps than Dumars. Dell’s tenure is aging well in hindsight. Dude made some great trades and built a pretty good team with a quarter of the assets that Griff had

You are correct. That being said, I could still see us getting a great package from a team like the Rockets, Thunder, Pistons, and potentially others.

We could probably get 3 players back, 1 w all star potential, 1-2 picks. That’s better than 30 games a year Zion.

The offers will be even worse next offseason when he plays 30 games again and he doesn’t play a playoff game for the 7th consecutive season.

The time to trade Zion is now. He’s got 3 years left of his contract. Each year you go without trading him, you either have to extend him or trade him with less years on his contract in which he’ll have more control on where he wants to go and teams will give you less if he has less years on his deal.

For sure, the vote from the Nativist crowd is all catcalls and howls. But getting off Griff and Zion is the Pels best option. Franchise can't move forward with Zion's health and position being the center of conversation. Get 2 picks and a good power forward ~ Jalen Johnson, O.G. Ananoby to pair with your top 4 pick and have assets in the future. A good tank in 2025 and your back on good footing in 2026.

1000% agree. I said this before but with Dejounte set to miss probably half of next season recovering from the Achilles tear, we’re already going into next season with one hand tied behind our back. we need to use this as an opportunity to do a quick reset. Trade Zion, get a good pick this year, let Murray sit most if not all of next year to fully heal, tank for a top pick next year in what’s supposed to be another loaded draft. Then you come into 2026 with a fully healthy Murray, Herb, Trey, hopefully 2 top 5 picks plus whatever you got from a Zion trade

My final thoughts on Dumars is that it’s a bad hire. I don’t understand it.

The worst part about it though it Gayle making demands like keeping Willie and trading Zion.

I don’t think Dumars will work out but Jesus if you don’t even let the guy do his job like hire his own coaches and make decisions on trading franchise players then it’s doomed from the start.

That pisses me off more than the Dumars hire

What bothers me most about those decisions is that it's VERY likely that Gayle is making those choices with 0.0% regard to the actual basketball being played.

Essentially, she likes Dumars and Green personally because they're nice and they don't curse and they go to church.

She wants Zion gone because she's embarrassed of his Instagram mama drama

If anybody was wondering about Dumars philosophy on building a championship roster, its to find scorers. Not necessarily shooters.

SAS asks him very specifically here.
Pelicans will continue to try to win with no spacing
