Alright, I can't keep it to myself anymore. There is a coach who has coached here before that our current owner and his closest advisors are not questioning whether to hire, but wether to hand him GM power as well. I will absolutely say no more on this.

This is from the PR thread on the Bucks writer saying major moves are coming in the offseason. He's a new poster over there so not much of track record, but the implication seems to be Mike Malone as HC and possibly GM. Like I said, it's a shaky rumor, Malone doesn't have much of a track record as a head coach and he has zero front office experience, but it's such a slow news day we have 2 threads going on Aminu, so I figure why not?

I will say that we attempted to and failed to hire Malone as a coaching consultant, don't know if that interest came from Monty, Demps or Loomis/Benson, but interest in bringing Malone back into the fold was there a month ago.

Regardless of who it is (HAS to be Malone, right?), the rumor suggests Dell is done here too. OR, suggests Dell will have spent his entire tenure as GM of the Pels without having a say in who is the head coach of this franchise.

In the middle of a playoff run, and this is what we are reduced to.

That's the weird part. All the guys out there that could conceivably do coach/gm, I can't think of one that coached in NO before. Malone as GM would be strange. Is it something crazy like Larry Brown or Paul Silas?

To be honest, I'm not a fan of pretty much any one person holding dual roles.

nor is anyone else, except the guy with both jobs. rivers, van gundy, saunders, etc all making shaky personnel decisions while trying to coach the team. its just impossible in todays NBA to stay 2 steps ahead of the cap maneuvering while trying to win 50 games

Yeah, I'm not putting much stock in it because it seems kind of nonsensical. It'd be one thing if there was previous history with Benson/Loomis and Malone, but he was gone by the time they bought the team. Monty and Demps also seem to be operating in a business as usual environment which is a bit unusual if one or both have already been fired for next year.

Probably the only reason I posted it is the team trying to hire Malone last month when he went briefly to the Timberwolves instead. That just doesn't seem like something Monty would initiate. What role would Malone have filled as a consultant to Monty? If they pulled it together and made the playoffs, which they are in the process of doing, would people credit Malone instead of Monty? Going after Malone seems more likely that it would have been a Demps or Loomis move.

This is from a TWolves writer back in January.

Hear a few teams including New Orleans expressed interest in having Mike Malone consult. So nice get by Flip. Good defensive coach. #twolves

I am really against this becoming a reality. There just isn't enough time in a day to do both effectively at a championship level.

Even if this rumor is true, we don't know what part was heard and who it was said by. This could just be a Malone demand rather than something the team is seriously considering. I would imagine Malone feels like he got screwed in his last job and wants to make sure he has more security/leverage this time. Doesn't mean he'll get it. Again, he has ZERO front office experience. We should all be pissed if Mike Malone HC/GM comes to pass. Dumars/Malone would be better.

I at least believe Demps would be much easier to get along with than vice versa. Demps has bent over backwards to cater to Monty. I would think that an incoming coach would trust in a dual vision, especially if Demps was still here to sign on to the hire.

Back when a certain somebody was busy telling us Monty was going to be fired and replaced by Jeff Ireland, I remember some of the "inside evidence" for the firing was something along the lines of there being a big rift between Demps and Monty and "after these bad losses certain people might start being listened to." Maybe Demps got to do an "I Told You So" after giving Monty everything he wanted and still fielding a bottom 5 defense.

More fun to talk about than how much I miss Aminu, but it's still all wild eyed speculation.

Loads of injuries to key players, journeyman SFs, and a fluid roster are what coaches want?
