Not sure I follow. The salary using a TPE still counts against the tax.
I was under the impression if we trade Olynyk and gain the salary that we can use both the 14.5mil NTMLE and 13mil TPE which is 27.5mil.
On the other hand you can take the salaries of Olynyk/ Hawk/ Jose/ Reeves and get somewhere +$20mil back while probably still having something for minimum guys.
Whatever you are looking at probably also includes an additional $5mil from Boston/ Payton because they are technically on the roster.
Olynyk/ Jose/ Hawk/ Reeves/ Boston/ Payton = $30mil in salary.
And we still have a little space with them included. So we can essentially add Bey in an existing TPE and then combine all the other salaries (or drop EP/ BB) in a expanded Wizards trade to take back a large contract.

I think I said this already, but way too much over thinking here. We are not going over the luxury tax, that is the only line that needs to be focused on. We are about $5 million under, and can create more with Payton being released plus a Hawkins or Jose move. Realistically we might add about $10 million more in new player/s. And that can be done via expanding the Poole trade, trade exception or just signing a FA. Pretty much all avenues are open to make it happen.

Most of the good ones are technically not available. You will have to trade for them.
You could always though buy a guy in FA that’s two tiers lower, which would then beg the question why and limit rookies minutes.

The Sixers would give the Pelicans at least one 2nd round pick to take Andre Drummond off their hands lol

None of this would take us into the luxury tax... We have $30mil between players on our current roster if you include Olynyk. Not overthinking just breaking down that we do have options.

Post Washington trade(which includes Olynyk), we are only $5-$6 million under the luxury tax. You’ve definitely got yourself confused somewhere.

Don’t mind Kevin Love to mentor the guys. Can give us good 10-15 minutes.

quote:Olynyk being gone is already included in that number. Just because we got a TPE does not mean it adds any space below the tax. I would like to see us keep Boston. Payton is as good as gone. With him gone, we approach $8 million in space below the tax. Jose, Hawk, Reeves and Boston would have to be replaced with players to fill out the roster. So, realistically, we have about $8 million to spend on a player, or maybe $10.5 million if we release Boston, but would likely take on 2 players. I think we will spend somewhere in the $6-$7 million on a big and either keep Boston or re-sign JRE.

As the roster stands we have 175 million in salary.
Take out CJ and Kelly, add Poole and Bey and we are at 169 million.
Add in the 3 draft picks and we are at 183 million in salary.
The luxury tax is estimated at 187.9, which means we have 4.5-5 million in breathing room under the tax. We could release Elfrid and Boston and increase that to 9.5-10 million, but that’s about the most we can get and would be at 14 players on the roster.
Edit, just declined Payton’s option, so 7.5-8 million under now.

Market just expanded, for the time being being at least.
Day’Ron Sharpe and Moe Wagner just had their options declined. In Sharpe’s case, I have no idea why on earth the Nets would do that. But guess we will see where things go. Both guys can help us for sure.

Dumars probably thinks Al Jefferson would be a great fit for this team..

$2.3 added with Bostons release. Now right at $10 million under the tax.

Santi Aldama would be a great get but he will be out of our price range without trading Dejounte. Clint Capella and Brook Lopez likely are looking for contenders to get a ring so they are out. I still think Larry Nance would be a smart addition if it’s at the right price. If we want to be a tempo team that lives on the fast break then you need athletes at center. Missi is very good in these situations and so was Larry. In the end we will find some 7 foot center just for size will get signed for as close to the vet minimum as possible unless there is a big trade for someone like Jarret Allen or Walker Kessler.Day’Ron Sharpe just got his option declined for the Nets, he would be a really good addition. No idea why they let him go.
