Say the Pelicans finish strong down the stretch, do you keep Gentry?

Let me start by saying demps has got to go yesterday so remove him from any conversation.

Who do you get if not uncle AL next year? We're not a premier destination, franchise is in transition. If IF the team keeps playing like they did last night why not let Gentry finish out his contract until someone else (presumably better) knows what they are dealing with here?

I personally think he should stay either way. I like him and he deserves to stay. This team plays with heart and fire when AD's not in the game. I love the young nucleus and Jrue as leader. I credit Gentry with the young guys development.

I think this really depends on the GM and if he has someone immediately in mind. If not, give the new GM a chance to get his bearings and do a good search. Gentry is a good stopgap and can navigate us through the reset year. Once the young core is set, bring in a new coach to continue the build and install the new culture..

You can’t start off by strapping your new GM with. Pre-determined coaching staff. The situation requires a full house cleaning.

And it's also why people start the same threads that have already been posted 20 times before. Right?

Hire the new GM and let him decide, I wouldn't give him a mandate either way. Gentry's tenure has certainly had it's ups and downs but a lot of that is tied to the dysfunction of the entire organization. Gentry did a hell of a job last year though.

You hire a POBO that shows ownership the best vision of building a winning franchise. You let that POBO figure out the next GM/HC.

I would rather a new GM wait a season to gauge the market and find the right fit, rather than hire someone quickly. If not, you can be stuck like the Lakers with a coach that doesn't suit the team. Plus I want Gentry to transition to the front office. He is adored around the league and is being abused during this whole situation. He has handled it all with grace. I would like to see him rewarded for that..

depends on who is available to replace him. i feel like Alvin would be a good rebuilding coach, but he is definitely not a championship head coach imo.

What part of cleaning house are you not getting?

This is kinda where I'm at. I don't think he can get you championships but from what I've seen he can get young players and have them playing hard and have some progression and at the end of the day that's kinda what the franchise needs.

It always seemed like Gentry was trying to make his system work with Dell demps players. I'd like to see him get a year without forcing a round ball into a square hole

Ask the new GM.

...Should be the only real answer IMO.

I feel like a coach who gives even the slightest amount about defense might be a nice change

That all depends on the AD trade. Uncle Al's system only works with the right players.

No. At this point we need an entirely new culture on the team from the front office on down.

Bring in a new POBO, give them authority to replace Dell and Gentry, and tell them to hire who they need to turn the organization into a well run one comparable to the rest of the league, if not better.

If they decide to keep Demps and/or Gentry, so be it. But I don’t see the point in keeping holdovers if we are trying to make sweeping changes.

God no. I like him as a person but we need to clean house in the worst way and he still doesn’t coach defense.

Was listening to Jeff Hornacek on the Woj pod the other day and he said that every FO should have an ex head coach in it. They need that perspective of the day to day, where most execs only see big picture.

I wouldn't hate if Gentry got some advisor position in the FO. Guy doesn't need to be doing the daily grind of coaching anymore as he gets older. Players like him and he has TONS of knowledge. That's what I would do without him instead of just firing him and paying him to not work for me
