Thats the keep pushing it forward mentality which honestly to me seems like an excuse not to be aggressive. I get your stance but with new CBA, deep draft and stars wanting out- its perfect timr to be aggressive.

Don't totally disagree. But wtf is OKC doing? No way they can use all those picks.
They’re waiting to pounce for a young star imo, same with Knicks.
I wouldn’t be surprised if Blazers trade Dame to see OKC try to jump in and take whatever star player Portland would get back sending a shitload of their picks.

Fingers crossed we move on from fatass

Regardless we still have a decent amount of picks we can use to get a star if we truly believe in this core. Those other teams like okc and utah wont invest in a guy like Dame which honestly helps us competing to get a star. My point being if you dont use it you lose it, drafting young talent us great but if you dont have playing time for them to develop ( see Dyson) its a waste.

Then go throw all the picks to get Dame if they’re not giving up Scoot. If your not all in on Scoot and believe in Zion/BI then go all in on Dame- push them to the top. Doing neither when you have ammunition to do so is a failure of the front office.

Its probably not happening, and shouldn't happen, so don't bitch about it later when it doesn't.

I personally love what OKC is doing. They're not rushing into anything especially with Shai on a long term contract. They have built that team through the draft with some quality players and when they feel those guys are developed enough to really make noise, they'll use their warchest. Their path is much better than what we did early on.

Thats fine if you want to stick with him but when a star like Dame is available and they dont make an aggressive move to pair him with your core- I think we have right to bitch because if you believe in Zion/BI, then load that team up and go win it.

I know. Let me live in my fantasyland that this thread will even reduce it by .000001%

Well at least we're not the hawks. They're so desperate to get out of cap hell, they are just about ready to dump any contract anyone is willing to take right now.

For sure, with all the Zion talk something needs to done to consolidate Pels roster. As it stands, Players 1-6 taking up 180 minutes leaving 60 min for Dyson, Nance, Jose, Naji, Kira, Hayes, Liddell, and a draft pick. Developmentally, they’d all be justified with 15-20 minutes per game. Keep in mind that 3 of these players were Pels lottery picks.

Lol message boards are literally made to bitch about the team or hypothesize what the team should do. How many people come on here saying “the pelicans are amazing and are building a great team” I dont think Ive read anything close to that here. Anyways I always appreciate a forum to vent.

Doubt it. We're not giving out crazy contracts to Collins, Hunter, and Murray.

Exactly my point. There comes a time, where you just dont have roster space or playing time and you have to make the determination well how can I get better? Well either trade the picks or some of the young talent for vets to help you win. Last night Grizz traded their pick and a young pg for smart to help them win now. To me thats great GM work.

What if instead of using the war chest picks to trade for some old broken down star, you just keep using them and hope to draft the next Giannis/Jokic/Dirk, etc.
Some of the best players in the league were not drafted in the top 5.
My philosophy would be to keep drafting non-American or at least non AAU guys with high ceilings.
Most will bust, but it only takes one hit and you could transform your franchise.
Curry - No. 7
Giannis - No. 15 Foreign
Jokic - 2nd round
Kawhi - No. 15
Butler - No. 30
Mitchell - No. 30
Bam - No. 14 Foreign
Sabonis - No. 10 Foreign
Bridges - No. 10
Green - Second round
Siakam - No. 27 Foreign
And there's more.
Just take that Patriots draft approach. Accumulate picks and keep swinging until you find the gems like Trey.

Completely agree. We’ll overpay on some our fan favorites and will have to sell on the cheap when we have issues making playoffs or getting out of first round.
Posted on 6/22/23 at 10:26 am to ghost2most
Problem with that is you cant go all in on for a title with Zion/BI and find the next Jokic. Not enough playing time to develop and be competitive. Again if your in on this core its about winning now not wasting years trying to find the next Jokic. And if you dont believe in them thrn tear it up to find the better guy.

I would consider trading Zion but only for a boat load of picks and swaps.
