Crewz you can't ignore that this move can question Loyalty with Boogie since that was his homeboy. All in all, I just felt like there was a better way to do this. The last thing we need to do is possible off Cousins.
Posted on 2/24/17 at 10:37 pm to Silverfoxx
Is it possible? Sure, 1 or 2 percent. But if you think this move is gonna sway him 15 months from now, then you are delusional IMO. What is going to sway him is how he is treated. How the team performs, how the team treats ALL his teammates, etc.
I remember reading this same logic back when people said they couldn't cut Darius Miller because he was AD's boy. It's such BS. These guys understand the business and that they are trying to make the playoffs. They didn't do Casspi dirty in any way. People are reading WAY too much into this and are just in a crappy mood because of last nights butt kicking.

I agree wIth you 100%. We are actually playing the long game when it comes to roster/salary flexibility
Posted on 2/24/17 at 10:54 pm to whatiknowsofar
Yep, flexibility is more valuable than having the Bird Rights of just another guy. If you can't get someone similar or better than Casspi, then you never had a shot or doing something great to begin with
Posted on 2/24/17 at 11:04 pm to Crewz
Half this board seems ready to give Casspi a 4 yr 25m deal it seems. He's a decent player but he's not going to move the needle. Not a great defender. Decent but not a great shooter. He would have been a piece for the right price but he's not what we need. I'd bet sizable money that they talked to Casspi, his agent, and probably Boogie/AD.
If he's gonna hit the free agent market looking for that type of money, let him test the effing water for once instead of vastly overpaying people brought in just to keep them.
Regarding the rest of the season, he now has an opportunity much like Jones to latch on elsewhere and play postseason ball or find a bad team that will overpay him. The Pels did him a potential favor.

Well, I was out all night and am just seeing this...
I hope this is the case, similar to what everyone thought we'd do with Lance
I really hope

what in the actual frick. i hope there's some sort of hand shake agreement to bring him back. either that or Dell REALLY dislikes the dude.

If only they took this hardline "you got injured? well, frick you" stance when the 3 three stooges were still in Pels uniforms

I'll have to think about all of this in the morning when I'm sober. But this feels like our FO once again thinking short term instead of long term. Making a playoff rush this year isn't important. Making the right offseason moves is, not sure how this will affect that.
But Casspi seems like a nice piece involved in the trade and could be a solid role player going forward.

1. Dont act like Dell is stupid. He is not. Do you think that one day he will do everything to make Boogie happy and after couple days risk everything? He must have talked with AD and DMC about it.
2. All those moves are the part of bigger plan. He let go Gallo who had PO. Let go Casspi Bird rights. For a reason.
3. Now he has 3 guys on 10day contracts. Some of them might be good additions. If they will fail. Than ok. Maybe they will sign Lance. Maybe another BDJ.If they will be fine he may give them longer and unguaranteed contract.
4. He looks for the healthy bodies. Casspi out for 4-6 weeks means that he will play at best in last 5 games. At best. Possible he is out for a year.
5. Playoffs is a main goal. DMC understands it.
I Love the shot on Captain Jack. Thompson might be useful.
Team is clearly cleaning cap space. For a reason.

Yes. Im infinitely more disappointed that they signed Jarret Jack than with waiving Casspi.
Maybe its a locker room thing. Fine. But if they are going to play him 20+mpg, they are trying to tank. Tim Frazier is better
ETA- yes, I do realize it's only a 10 day contract. It's not that big a deal. Point still stands

And there is NOTHING preventing the team from signing him next season. Absolutely nothing. The team simply thinks Reggie Williams or maybe Quinn Cook after ten days or having that roster spot for whoever for 24 games helps more than maybe getting an out of shape Casspi back for 6-8, which makes all the sense in the world
You think releasing a player when they're injured is going to create goodwill with them? I doubt Casspi comes back unless we pay extra now. And the rest of the team will see what we did as well. They'll know the team isn't loyal to them

Good god. They just released an 11/6 big having a bounce back year because PT went down significantly, and they want him to get paid this offseason.
They just brought in a veteran PG they traded to GSW for the shite of it as a gesture of good will in an obvious tank season...so he could get paid. Yet he's back in a Pels uniform tonight!
No player that I've seen has actually taken pot shots at the front office this past few years. They've all taken pot shots at how bad the coaching was when here or had nothing negative to say,

This thread just blows my mind. It honestly does. It just sounds like a lot of people repeating what they read elsewhere without an actual understanding of the options. And it seems pointless to try to talk those people off the ledge, because they have no ability to comprehend. So go again and enjoy your rage and fury over one of the most inconsequential moves in team history people. No point trying to educate any further
Posted on 2/25/17 at 7:45 am to 23hella
Damn he was actually not a loser.
Posted on 2/25/17 at 7:48 am to Crewz
People wanted to keep Casspi's Bird Rights because it would have been part of the puzzle this offseason. Now it's not. Not a big mystery.
Posted on 2/25/17 at 8:01 am to Crewz
It's the overreacting that has infested Louisiana fanbases
Posted on 2/25/17 at 8:05 am to Fun Bunch
It's also a bit of proxy outrage at 3 roster spots being occupied by guys not getting any minutes.
