Is peavy even better than Watford?

That is irrelevant.

If you don't pick up the option of a player everyone said not to pickup the option on, you have those seconds and Peavy to use elsewhere if you need to

Every move has a ripple effect to other moves

Let's not pretend that Peavy was that good, or that 2nds matter. This was best case scenario and not that bad of a salary dump trade at all. Multiple posters thought we would have to give up much more

It’s the fact that it was an unforced error. shite like this adds up over time. Especially when you have someone like Dumars in charge

It was a gamble. We needed shooting and hoped for improvement. It didn't happen.

Not sure but Mcgowens is better than Peavy though and is younger.

I doubt it.

Look, I applaud them for getting Mathurin, who I think can help this team even if he might chuck it up to get his next contract, and then making the numbers work.

But Dumars and Co just keep making unforced errors that they then need to correct. Its a ripple effect that keeps spreading outward

Like why are people glossing over this? He was a lottery pick with the potential skill set that fit what your team needed. Just didn’t work out. But, hey cookie points for the fan base being right!

Exactly. A blind man could see it was idiotic to pick up Hawkins option last year. Amazing how low his value is that you have to take on a 41 year old terrible player and a young overdrafted NBL player as well as a 2nd and a swap.

The positive is that I think Gibson's contract will only be partially guaranteed because of the trade (it was non-guaranteed but I think they have to guarantee a portion to make the trade work). So, he will be released. Johnson is fully guaranteed, so I would expect he will at least go through camp and maybe stick for the season. I just hope Dumars does not make the same mistake and pick up his option.

It was a terrible gamble and was obvious. Go back and look at shooters who signed in free agency last offseason who got well less than $7 million for a season. There were much less risky ways to fill that void given that there had been no indication of true value thus far.

I also did not realize Taj Gibson was still in the league.

There's a very long list of these guys that their team didn't pick up their option.

Or many 2nd rd picks are just not good.

It does not. We were at 16 players, now 15 with Gibson being cut.

The hope is that we still make a move with Poole.

You talked to those players and they told you they'd sign here in free agency?

Pretty sure we went after Garry Trent, Hardaway, and a few other Vet SG the last few years. Guess how many chose to come here.

You could make a list of essentially Javonte Green/ JJ Reddick as the only vet SG to want anything to do with us the last 10 years. And out of those 2 players only one of them didn't talk shite after he left.

We offered Hardaway the most money and he still chose the mavs over us. Like the way people can just assume is crazy.

If we are looking at Poole trades then this helps give us leverage vs being over the tax or strapped right at the line.

Murray/ Fears
Herb/ Mathurin/ McGowens/ Poole
Trey/ Bey/ AJ Johnson
Zion/ Karlo/ Watford
Missi/ Queen/ DJ

Still very Guard heavy and need another Center. Here's to hoping Poole for a stretch C happens. As it stands we will see a Missi/ Queen rotation and Karlo taking over backup PF.
