There would be no motivation for Clingan to even workout. Would be odd to sandbag the workout unless he had a 1.1 guarantee, which I doubt he has.

I think Edey’s athleticism is just deceptive. Looking at some other accomplished bigs of years past, he has a better lane agility and 3/4 sprint times than guys like Brook Lopez, Demarcus Cousins, Hassan Whiteside, Rudy Gobert, and Kelly Olynk.

His lane agility time, which seemed to be the big knock coming in, is better than a ton of guys - Gordon Hayward, Favors, Lance Stephenson, Kawhi Leonard, Vucevic, Khris Middleton, Austin Rivers, Steven Adams, Julius Randle, Bobby Portis, Wagner bros, Jarret Allen, John Collins, Donavan Mitchell, Naz, Gafford, Naji, Jaxson, Trey Murphy. He shaved time off all his workouts from 23 to 24, which is impressive.

We lost some perspective on this guy here. There’s been some crazy takes on him, but he’s going to be a 10+ year NBA guy in the same vein as Jonas

Our pick may be best available between:

Kyle Filipowski
DaRon Holmes
Zach Edey
Yves Missi
Kale'l Ware

The problem is that we have no clue who that is or where they fall. The mocks are all over the place with these C's.

Hopefully Cleveland is making that pick.

Didn't they say Jonas won't be back because of Zion? And this guy won't be on the floor when Zion is? And if he is the back up then who is the starter? Hopefully someone who can play with Zion

Nobody has said that as far as I've seen. JV is leaving because he doesn't fit how Willie wants to play, which is more about JV's defensive ability and not Zion. JV is a bit redundant with Zion on the floor, but he also is good insurance when Zion is out of the game because you can run an inside out offense through him. In theory Edey should be able to provide similar abilities but the redundancies will be much less awkward because there wouldn't be a big contract or expectations of starting. The real question is, would Willie play him at all.

They are going to have to trade or sign someone. I think the most likely option is someone like Jarrett Allen or Clint Capella coming back as part of an Ingram trade that also brings back a starting guard.

Shamit makes a good case for Edey being a good fit here...if you replace BI with Trey in the starting lineup.

But what about defense?

Or, are we just looking at this as a 10 minute per game backup?

I'd be drafting him as a rotation player to be part of the center committee. How big of a part depends on...

We don't know yet. He's got 4 inches on JV in height and wing span. He also looked better than expected mobility wise at the combine, so maybe he can be more passable than a 30+ year old JV.

Does that mean he's the best player to take at 21 if he's there? I don't know, I don't really study the draft much, but Edey certainly fits the Herb/Jose mold of proven player that knows how to play the game and is undervalued because they have what is seen as a low ceiling. He also would help fill the rebounding void that will be left by JV.

Well he's obviously going to play drop coverage, which is what we did before and what just about everyone does now a days.

Is he really any different mobility wise than just about every other big center in the league? His advantage is he's long as hell with his 9'7" standing reach, same as Wemby. Playing good drop coverage has more to do with your bball iq than how quick your feet are.
Does Zubac have more mobility than Edey? Edey has 7" on him for standing reach.

I've said it a few times, but he impressed me with how he ran the floor and never seemed to get tired. He's a big dude to be in such good shape. If he's only playing for say 6-10 minutes at a time, then he can really hustle getting up and down the court, and you'd be amazed how much havoc that can create when someone that big beats everyone down the court and creates a mismatch immediately b/c his man isn't hustling as much.

I just did minimal draft research.

I want Daron Holmes. He's the athletic freak that rim runs and can shoot a 3. He'll need to take more, but he's got plus athleticism and I love his footwork

yeah his conditioning for a player his size is crazy. Look at Clingan, who I love, he's another giant guy but only played around 22MPG in college cuz he couldn't handle big minutes.

Edey won me over in the title game. He played 40 minutes and dropped 39 and 10 on Clingan, who will be a top 5 pick and is a monster on D. I don't think his defense will be as bad as everyone says. He's 7'5 with a 7'11 wingspan. It's hard to score against guys that size. Idk that he'll be an all star or anything but I think this guy is going to find a way to make an impact in the league

I will believe we actually draft a player for ourselves at 21 when I see it (or at all), so I am not getting super into this draft yet.

I like Holmes but I don’t know that he’ll be there when we pick, and he measured a little smaller than expected at the combine. I think the best realistic are either him or Filipowski (I doubt Edey will be there either). Unfortunately I haven’t seen or heard much about Filipowski other than his 3 point shot may not be as good as expected.
